Facebook is down for many users

Large numbers of users are suffering accessibility issues when trying to reach Facebook, as an unexplained outage is currently affecting many across Europe and the United States.

Facebook is down, with many of its 1.2 billion members around the globe complaining of being unable to access the social network. The outage is illustrated in the form of an error message that appears when users attempt to visit the website.

An overview of the unavailability is provided by Down Detector, which has confirmed that the issue is affecting a large segment of the UK and western Europe. The lack of functionality continues across the US east coast, in addition to patches of its west coast too.

Ironically, the hashtag #facebookdown is trending on Twitter - with many users taking out their frustration on the rival social network. Facebook is yet to comment on the problem.
