'Gears of War' remake for Xbox One goes gold, now available for 'pre-download'

Microsoft's remake of "Gears of War" for Xbox One has gone gold, and those who pre-order the game can now download it in advance of its Aug. 25 release to begin playing as soon as it launches.

"Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" can be pre-ordered and downloaded digitally from the Xbox One store in either a standard edition for $40 or a deluxe edition for $60. The only difference between the two options is the deluxe version features custom weapon and character skins, with 10 animated weapon skins, 36 standard weapon skins as well as civilian Marcus Fenix and Aaron Griffin multiplayer skins. Both versions include a pre-order bonus of multiplayer characters Adam Fenix and civilian Anya as well as the animated imulsion weapon skin.

For those who don't yet have an Xbox One but want "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" on the console, Microsoft will release a bundle featuring both for $350. That bundle is composed of the 500GB Xbox One and a code for the digital version of the game.

Made by internal Microsoft studio The Coalition, the "Gears of War" remake features remastered graphics rendered in 1080p and running at 60 frames per second. Additionally, the game will also feature five new levels that were added for a PC version in 2007 but never released for the original Xbox 360 game.

Microsoft will also published "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" for Windows 10 PCs, though a release date has yet to be announced. That version of the game will feature DirectX 12 support and the ability to display the game in resolutions up to 4K.
