It appears that tech giants can't stop showering their AI love on the world's most populous country. Google has announced that it's offering 18 months of its Google AI Pro subscription to eligible users living in India at no cost.
However, being eligible means you must be a subscriber of the Jio Unlimited 5G plan. Google has partnered with Reliance Intelligence to bring the AI benefits to users. It's an AI-focused subsidiary of the multinational conglomerate Reliance, which also owns the telecom operator Jio with over 500 million users.
Google said that the 18-month free access to its AI Pro plan, currently priced at INR 35,100 ($396 approx.), will first roll out to users aged 18 to 25 and will later be extended to all eligible Jio customers nationwide.
Google AI Pro comes with higher limits for newer generative AI models such as Gemini 2.5 Pro, Nano Banana, Veo 3.1, as well as higher usage limits for apps such as Flow, Whisk, Jules, Gemini Code Assist, and Gemini CLI.
In NotebookLM, users can generate up to 5 times as many Audio Overviews and notebooks as in the free version. The plan also includes 2TB of cloud storage shared across services like Photos, Drive, Gmail, and WhatsApp backups.
If you are a Jio customer, you can check whether you're eligible and activate the free Google AI Pro subscription from the MyJio app. Jio said in the fine print that the benefit can only be claimed once per unique mobile number, and users must maintain an active 5G plan for the entire duration.
Google's free perk comes not long after Perplexity partnered with Airtel to offer 12 months of Perplexity Pro at no cost in India. It was followed by OpenAI, whose year-long free ChatGPT Go promotional offer for all users in India will go live on November 4. However, the search giant entered the race quite early, offering Google AI Pro free to students aged 18 or below this year in July.
