Google's Nest devices will soon be available in Samsung SmartThings

Google has announced that it's soon bringing its Nest devices to Samsung's smart home ecosystem, SmartThings. The integration will allow users to control devices like Nest cameras, thermostats, and doorbells from the Samsung SmartThings app, or even from other Samsung smart devices like TVs and refrigerators.

The move is interesting, since some may have assumed that Google's acquisition of Nest was meant to build an ecosystem around its products and bar other smart platforms from accessing them as easily. Of course, there are some benefits for Google as part of the partnership, too. The companies are enabling Google Assistant support in more of Samsung's smart devices and appliances such as ovens. Recently, the digital assistant already came to Samsung smart TVs.

Samsung has also made it easier to link Google Assistant with its SmartThings app, roping more users into the Google ecosystem. Additionally, voice control for Samsung devices with the Google Assistant now supports more languages, including Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Korean, and Japanese. Finally, you'll soon be able to tap the "Devices" quick panel item on Samsung Galaxy phones to see a list of smart home devices connected to your account.

Google didn't announce any specific dates for these new integrations with Samsung services and devices will be available. Presumably, we'll hear more about it when the features are ready.
