Google Home app gets hot water support for Nest Thermostats in Europe

The latest Google Home update brings full hot water support for Nest Thermostats and other new features.

It's been almost a month since Google added some new camera features to the Google Home app. The search giant is now back with another Google Home update, catering to the Nest Thermostat users this time.

A highlight of the latest update is that "all Nest Thermostat models since 2015 can be fully controlled and managed in the Home app for the first time," Google said on its Nest community blog. This makes Google Home a one-stop shop to manage all climate devices, such as temperature sensors, air conditioners, fans, humidifiers, and other devices.

Google Home now supports hot water management for the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Gen UK/EU and Nest Thermostat E sold in Europe. This functionality was much-requested by European users, Google said, and was previously available on the Nest app.

It's worth noting that Google pulled the plug on Nest Thermostats for Europe earlier this year, stating that it would "no longer launch new Nest thermostats in Europe" because it became challenging to support "a variety of hardware and software requirements." That said, several hot water features are now available in the Google Home app, rolling out over the next few weeks.

The Google Home app also displays the Heat Link Temperature for Nest Thermostat E alongside outdoor temperature and a new button to quickly enable/disable the Eco Mode. If your Nest Thermostat is connected to an OpenTherm2 combi boiler, you can change the hot water temperature setting in the app.

Google has simplified thermostat settings to make your most-used controls easier to find. The Google Home app also adds more temperature and mode controls for non-thermostat devices such as smart heaters, window air conditioners, and mini-splits you linked via Matter and Works With Google Home partners.
