Obsidian Entertainment has shipped another content update for its in-development survival game Grounded 2. Landing as its promised spring content drop, the Beat the Heat update is packed with its biggest boss fight yet, a new anthill to explore, a progression system for mounts, and more.
The new boss is the big highlight this time, which happens to be a giant, horned lizard inspired by medieval fantasy dragons. Aptly named King Dozer, this creature dwells in a heated lair, and after summoning it for a fight, players will have to cool down the arena environment to stand a chance at winning.
“When we started working on the King Dozer fight, we spent time talking about ‘what would a lizard do?’ Our answer to that was that they’d want to find a nice warm place to hang out,” Chris Parker, Grounded 2 game director, explains. “This led us to wonder ‘what happens if the player can make the environment cold?’ Eventually that got us to the design you see in the game today where King Dozer thrives in the sizzling environment and the player is constantly challenged to cool down his arena to both protect themself and keep Dozer from being buffed."
Beating Dozer will net players loot to craft new knight-themed armor and weapons that deal Spicy damage.
Next, the update has introduced the long-requested mount (or Buggy) progression system. Using the new Moldy Milk Molars that are now spread across the park, players are able to improve stamina, health, and inventory of Buggies, and also unlock mutations to enhance their abilities. There is now a Black Soldier Ant buggy as a new mount option too.
The Grounded 2 - Beat the Heat update is now live across PC and Xbox platforms. The complete patch notes for the update are massive too, find them here. With the promised spring update now out of the way, Obsidian is looking to bring out its next major content drop this summer, which will have Steam Deck cross-play support, the return of ziplines, updated swimming, water bases, and more features.
