IBM sells off RAID business

Reports said that IBM will sell its Mylex RAID business to LSI Logic, in a further move to slim down its business.

The transaction is expected to continue by the end of this quarter and will give LSI Logic access to a bunch of technology including RAID controllers, software, subsystems and hardware.

It also gives LSI Logic valuable access to Mylex customers including Xyratex, Fujitsu Siemens, NEC and Big Blue itself.

While IBM said that it was getting out of the hard drive business this is a bit of a surprise, and comes just a day after it said it was going to sell its Endicott manufacturing facility.

The new firm will take over 2,000 staff at Endicott, and, IBM claims, is part of a major restructure of its Microelectronics division.
