Jolla Tablet now available to pre-order - but only in "limited quantities"

It's been nine months, almost to the day, since Jolla first announced plans to launch a tablet, alongside its existing smartphone. The Finnish company crowdfunded its efforts to bring the product to market, and today, it took a big step towards its official launch.

The time now is both 12:03 and 12:37.

Jolla has opened pre-orders for its new Tablet in numerous markets around the world, although the floodgates aren't quite open yet - only "limited quantities" of the device will be available in this initial pre-order wave.

Key specs of the Jolla Tablet include:

  • 64-bit quad-core 1.8GHz Intel Atom (Bay Trail) processor
  • 7.85-inch IPS LCD with 2048x1536px resolution
  • 2GB RAM
  • 32GB / 64GB onboard storage (plus microSD card support up to 128GB)
  • 5MP rear camera with 1080p video recording
  • 2MP front-facing camera
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band
  • Accelerometer, lightsensor, gyroscope, compass and 'hall sensor'
  • microUSB OTG
  • 4450mAh battery
  • 203 x 137 x 8.3mm; 385g

?The device also comes with Jolla's latest Sailfish OS 2.0, which the company says offers "the best multitasking experience on the market." Like its predecessor, Sailfish OS 2.0 includes support for Android apps, as well as for those built specifically for Jolla's ecosystem.

The Tablet is priced - including 24% value added tax - at €267 EUR ($299 USD) for the 32GB model, and €299 ($335) for the 64GB model. Note that the dollar values given here are direct currency conversions of the euro prices quoted in Jolla's press release; Jolla itself says that "prices will vary by country", but this should at least give you a rough idea of how much the device will cost.

You won't be able to pre-order it from every part of the world though - only those in the European Union, Norway, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, Australia, India, Hong Kong and Russia will be able to do so now, with shipments expected to begin by late October.

Those who supported the crowdfunding campaign, and who are also eligible to receive a Tablet, should expect deliveries to start "in a few weeks".

If you want to pre-order the Tablet, head over to the Jolla Store.
