Lab Report: Windows Server 2003 Outperforms Predecessors

VeriTest, an independent test lab, has found that Windows Server 2003 outperforms Microsoft® Windows 2000 Server and Microsoft Windows NT® Server 4.0 by a dramatic margin—typically performing two to three times faster on the same hardware.

Compared to Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows Server 2003 is:

  • Two times faster on average as a file server.

  • Three times faster serving dynamic Web content.

  • Four times faster serving static Web content.
When combined with other existing performance benchmarks, this report provides compelling evidence that Windows Server 2003 is not only the fastest Windows Server ever but also an industry leader in performance and scalability.

After testing Windows Server 2003 against earlier versions of Windows operating systems, VeriTest concludes, "Windows Server 2003 delivered significantly better file and Web server performance compared to Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition under all test scenarios."
