LG has launched Travel+ on its smart TVs to help travelers decide on their next destination. Eventually, it'll feature exclusive deals.

LG has launched a new, free service called LG Travel+ for LG Smart TVs running webOS 6.0 in select markets. The app is designed to help travelers with their journeys by offering inspirational content and practical resources. LG said the service combines essential travel tools into a single platform for both experienced travelers and newbies. The service is initially coming to Korea, the US, the UK, and Germany. More countries will be added in the future.

When users enter the app, they’ll be presented by a welcome page that displays striking visuals of destinations to spark inspiration. A Popular Destinations section offers key travel insights like maps and recommended visiting times while a Travel Deals & More section highlights relevant content and offers. The app also features high-quality travel videos that capture the sights and sounds of global destinations. Any content that a user likes can be saved to My Luggage for easy access in the future.

LG Travel+ allows users to access travel deals from webOS partners too. Users can use on-screen QR codes to book their flights and accommodations directly from their mobile devices. LG hopes that this service makes it easier for users to get the best value on their trips.

The first offers are planned to be offered in the third quarter of the year for the Korean market, with other markets to follow later. In future updates, LG plans to enhance the app’s features and content through collaborations with global airlines and travel agencies.

LG said that the point of Travel+ is to inspire passionate travelers worldwide. In coming updates, it will get more features, content and offers, including exclusive content and deals just for LG TV owners.

Interestingly, BBC News reported earlier this month that many Britons this year have been booking holidays that are ‘later, closer, shorter’ because of squeezed budgets. By the time things pick up in the UK and elsewhere, LG may have matured its Travel+ app a bit more so that people are ready to book trips through it.
