The partnership will allow Microsoft's cloud and AI technologies to be used in conjunction with MSCI's analytical and mathematical models as well as its data. This will enable investors to enter a new age of "next generation investment decision making".

Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President of Cloud and AI at Microsoft had the following to say about the collaboration:

MSCI and Microsoft share a commitment to accelerating innovation in the financial services industry. MSCI’s investment solutions, combined with the data and analytics capabilities of Microsoft Azure, will enable investment managers to harness intelligent insights needed to confidently navigate today’s global markets.

Throughout 2021, four products will be released as a result of this partnership. The first one is Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) as a Service which will utilize Azure and Power BI to enable insights and measurements across the carbon footprint of companies as well as the adaptive capacity to climate change.

Next is Index Solutions as a Service, built on top of Azure using insights from more than 50 years of MSCI experience. It will allow customers to develop customized indexes in a self-service environment, fully test them, compare their results against benchmarks, and then order them from MSCI.

Finally, the last two products are Data Management Solutions as a Service and Investment Analytics Solutions as a Service. These will enable investors to analyze historical market datasets and gain new insights from it. MSCI will also launch a portal offering rich APIs, which customers can integrate into their own investment solutions.
