Microsoft announces new security features for Windows 10 and Office 365

Microsoft held its Ignite 2016 keynote today, where the firm emphasized its intentions to build better security into all of its products. New features will be arriving for Windows 10, Office 365, and Enterprise Mobility and Security, formerly known as Enterprise Mobility Suite.

Windows Defender Application Guard promises to make Edge the most secure browser for enterprise customers (sorry consumers). It uses isolated containers that are built directly into the hardware. This is intended to keep malware from spreading beyond those containers. The feature will be available to Insiders soon, and to Windows 10 Enterprise users in the first quarter of 2017.

The company also said that Windows Defender and Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) will talk to each other. Both services will share data with one another in an effort to help IT professionals to assess and respond to threats.

Office 365 ATP is also seeing major improvements. It's being expanded to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business. Dynamic Delivery will send users placeholder attachments, and in the meantime, the actual attachment will be scanned for threats. The service will also be analyzing links in real-time with a feature called URL Detonation.

Office 365 Threat Intelligence is designed to track the origin of a threat, which will allow IT pros to take immediate action. The service will integrate with security incident event management (SIEM) systems, and will allow users to deploy dynamic policies, depending on the severity.

Enterprise Mobility and Security is a new service, which is designed to help businesses move to the cloud. The service includes Microsoft Azure Information Protection, which was announced back in June to help organizations to classify and protect their data.

Outlook for iOS and Android is now completely powered by the Microsoft Cloud for Office 365 business users. It will now support Exchange email addresses, so everything will be done through Office 365.

Secure Productive Enterprise will be available next week on October 1. Microsoft promises that it offers the best security across Office 365, Windows 10 Enterprise, and Enterprise and Mobility.
