Microsoft has launched a new Microsoft 365 cloud region in Austria, which is now generally available for commercial customers. This is part of a series of data center launches over the past 18 months in locations including Mexico, Spain, Taiwan, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Chile. The introduction of this new region enables local access to cloud services, including AI capabilities, to support Austria’s digital and AI economy.
The launch includes the general availability of the Microsoft 365 Advanced Data Residency (ADR) add-on and Microsoft 365 Multi-Geo Capabilities for customers provisioned in Austria. These add-ons give customers greater control over where customer cloud data is stored. ADR guarantees that certain customer data for core online services will be stored within Austria. Microsoft says that the services covered by ADR include Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
The Advanced Data Resiliency (ADR) add-on ensures data-at-rest for several services remaining within the Austrian region. The Multi-Geo capability allows customers to specify where user data will be stored on a per-user basis within a single tenant. This allows organizations to manage their data location with granular control.
Microsoft’s new cloud region and its features are designed to help Austrian customers with their digital transformation. The availability of artificial intelligence and other cloud services will help with the development of the AI economy in Austria. To learn more about the new capabilities, customers and partners can contact their Microsoft account team.
