Microsoft Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID unboxing: A Surface Keyboard, but better

Microsoft's new Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID only has a few differences from the company's Surface Keyboard, including Windows Hello. Here's our unboxing video of the new peripheral.

Last month, Microsoft released its new Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID for $129.99. Promising a 'hidden fingerprint sensor', it looks almost exactly like the $99 Surface Keyboard, with a handful of additional features.

The most obvious feature is Windows Hello support via the fingerprint sensor. For some reason, it's actually a button, and you'll need to press that button in order for it to read your fingerprint, but it works pretty well.

Another major difference is that the Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID gives you the option between a wired and a wireless connection. It connects to your PC via a micro-USB cable, or through Bluetooth. There are multiple benefits to a wired keyboard; for me, it's the ability to boot into the BIOS, as Bluetooth keyboards don't work until Windows is booted up.

One more benefit to wired is that this actually contains a rechargeable battery. Microsoft promises up to four months on a charge, whereas the Surface Keyboard offers up to a year with disposable batteries.
