Microsoft quietly launches expense tracker Spend on the App Store

Microsoft has been launching a good deal of mobile apps under its Garage incubator program in recent years, including a lightweight email app called Email Insights and Road Runner designed to train autonomous driving algorithms. Now, a new Garage project is out on the Apple App Store to help you keep track of your expenses.

Called Spend, the new app is developed by Mobile Data Labs, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2015. According to the app's listing description, Spend works to track your expenses for reimbursement or tax purposes by syncing purchase information from your cards and bank accounts.

The app also allows you to categorize your purchases as business or personal and organize them with custom tags. Plus, you'll be able to get real-time information about your expenses on a weekly, monthly or custom basis available in a spreadsheet or PDF format.

You can also include notes in your purchases, split expenses, customize expense categories and tags, and manage your expenses on a computer with Spend's web dashboard. Finally, the app lets you take photos of receipts and attach them to your expenses. Since the app is in its early stage, Microsoft vows to roll out more improvement to Spend going forward. The app is now available to download from the App Store.
