Microsoft to remove all gun avatar items from Xbox Live?

If you own an Xbox 360 and want to outfit your avatar with some kind of gun prop to let other gamers know you are a real man or woman, you might need to hurry up and purchase them ASAP. A post by Epic Games' community manager "raczilla" on the game developer's official forums says that those gun props will go missing on the Xbox Live Marketplace soon.

In his post "raczilla" says:

Heads up! Starting on Jan. 1, 2012, the Lancer and Hammerburst avatar items will no longer be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace. If you’ve purchased the items prior to Jan. 1, you will be able to keep them. A new policy goes into effect for all gun-like avatar items on the Marketplace, so get them while they’re hot.

There's been no official word from Microsoft about this new policy nor any reason why the company is making such a change. It's possible that being able to purchase such props for your avatar might be a violation of some of the policies offered by the ESRB rating system in the US and by other game ratings system in other countries. In any case, if you have a few Microsoft Points to spend on avatar items, now might be the time to use them to pick up some props that might disappear quickly.
