Neowin becomes self sufficient

I'm sure many of our visitors saw the SQL errors, the server slowdowns after some downtime these past 2 or 3 days. This is because we have moved to our own server.

We are proud to announce that Neowin is now self sufficient. The ad's we display have so far paid for various scripts that we use on this site (one being toplist link rotation script) and we have recently registered Invision Power Board which will come into affect with 1.2.

We are hosted on a dedicated server at Rackshack, the specs of the server are the same as the one IPS paid for. That being: Dual P4 Xeon 2.0GHz (Hyper Threading Technology) 1GB of Ram, 2x 73GB IDE Disk drives and a bandwidth allowance of 1TB p/m. Currently this is a minimum setup that we require in order to function normally, so expect expansion. We plan to purchase an additional 512mb of memory soon but again all this is only possible as long as ad's can be displayed.

Invison Power Services have helped us with the server move and made sure it was configured the same way they had their server configured for us. We want to thank IPS for their support and help enabling Neowin to grow and make these inevitable steps that we have to make in order to expand. We will be leaving the IPS banners and towers for a while as an extended thanks to them for all their support since October last year.

So will there be changes? Initially, No. We are working on an expansion that we hope to start very soon but we want to make those announcements closer to when its more of a reality. Our first priority is upgrading to the final released version of Invision Power Board 1.2. Due to the extensive templates updates we decided to wait until it is final before we upgrade our board. We will continue to work closely with IPS as we have done in the past and hope to persuade many more people to use their services.

So thanks IPS and thanks to all our members and lurkers for supporting Neowin, especially the ones that don't block the ad's displayed on our pages.
