New leak reveals the name, colors & launch date of Fitbit's upcoming screenless fitness band

Google teased a screenless Fitbit fitness band earlier this month, and new leaks suggest it'll be called Fitbit Air.

Earlier this month, we reported that Google was working on a screenless Fitbit-branded fitness tracker. This new band is meant to compete in a market that has been cornered by Whoop and Oura.

This device was reported to include "basic features" like continuous heart rate monitoring, heart rate variability analysis, and skin temperature sensing. Google plans to ship the band using a subscription-based model that connects to Fitbit's AI-powered personal health coach.

Now, some more details have emerged about the device. First of all, it appears Google's going to be calling it the "Fitbit Air". The folks over at Droid-Life dug up supplier information that points to three color options: Obsidian, Lavender, and Berry.

Droid-Life also suggested that Google will sell a "Performance Loop Band" in several colors individually, along with other styles like an "Active Band" and "Metal Mesh Band". Supplier data lists the Fitbit Air's hardware at a price around $93, which could mean a retail price of $99 when it launches (possibly on May 16).

For context, Whoop currently offers three different tiers. The cheapest is Whoop One, which costs $199 per year or $25 per month. That plan gives you the standard Whoop 5.0 device with a basic "CoreKnit" band, a standard wired USB-C charger, and tracks basic metrics like sleep, strain, and recovery.

The mid-tier option, "Peak," runs $239 per year or $30 per month and includes the Whoop 5.0, a more comfortable "SuperKnit" band, and Whoop's signature waterproof wireless PowerPack. It also adds a couple of extra perks like a Health Monitor, real-time Stress Monitor, and "Healthspan" longevity metrics.

The last, and most expensive, tier is "Life," which provides the Whoop MG (Medical Grade) device, a "SuperKnit Luxe" band, and the wireless PowerPack for access to electrocardiogram (ECG) tracking. Both the 5.0 and MG boast up to 14 days of battery life on a single charge.

While Whoop has not dropped an "official" response to Google basically trying to eat its lunch, it did announce a massive $575 million Series G funding round on the same day that Google released its Steph Curry promo video teasing the Fitbit band. When Google first acquired Fitbit in 2021, Whoop CEO Will Ahmed brushed it off, noting: "Just because a big company enters the space doesn't mean they'll be successful."
