Old code found in new Microsoft XP lamp

The Inquirer has a piece, from a reader who has gone browsing through XP's "explorer.exe" file using the estimable Resource Hacker to produce the following results.

Our reader used it to hack into the gut of a DLL called Reshack and found the following in the strong table of his version of "explorer.exe".

"This pre-release version of "Internet Explorer 4.0" Desktop/Explorer has expired. Please update to the latest release of "Internet Explorer 4.0" from WWW.MICROSOFT.COM"

He points out, quite reasonably, that it's easier to ship the different versions of WinXP embedded, Pro, Home Codename Whistler Server, Advanced Server and Datacenter Server with similar non critical executables, but asks: "What are Beta codenames doing in a final product's guts? And why are year old messages present in a supposedly really new operating system."
