If you're a Windows phone user, Microsoft announced some disappointing news today. Along with the release of Windows 10 Mobile build 15204, it confirmed that only a small subset of phones will receive the Creators Update.
Luckily, there's a bit of a silver lining here, as the handsets that are being dropped from support will still be able to continue to receive updates via the Windows Insider Program. In fact, while build 15063 is only available for the Slow ring on phones at the moment, when it does come to Release Preview, all previously supported devices will get it.
And that's exactly how you can continue to receive cumulative updates. It's similar to when the original Windows 10 Mobile update was only released for a subset of devices, but users could still get 1511 updates via Release Preview, and after the Anniversary Update rolled out, they even got a few cumulative updates if they switched over to Production.
This is good news for anyone that's still clinging onto an older device - such as a Lumia Icon, 930, or 1520 - and isn't sure about upgrading to a newer Windows handset. You won't be able to try out new Redstone 3 builds, but at least you can stay current while we all learn a little more about the future of the platform.
