As OnePlus usually does, following the announcement of its launch event for the OnePlus 7 series, the company has been steadily revealing new details of the smartphone's capabilities. After confirming the triple rear camera and the lack of water-resistance certification, CEO Pete Lau has announced through Twitter that the OnePlus 7 series will have UFS 3.0 storage.
UFS, which stands for Universal Flash Storage, is the commonly used storage technology for smartphones, and version 3.0 brings significant speed improvements, increasing the maximum total bandwidth from 1200 MB/s in UFS 2.1 to 2900 MB/s.
You may recall that back in February, Samsung announced that the Galaxy Fold would be the first device to ship with UFS 3.0 storage, but the severe display problems that cropped up in review units resulted in that phone being delayed indefinitely. That means OnePlus now has some room to beat Samsung to the punch.
OnePlus has put a lot of emphasis on a "fast and smooth" experience with its upcoming family of smartphones, and faster storage would certainly help with that. Other improvements in this regard include a rumored 90Hz display. The OnePlus 7 series will be officially launched on May 14, when the company should confirm all the details regarding the devices.
