Samsung has apologized after one of its customer support representatives indicated that it was company policy to advise against installation of Windows 10 on any of its PCs.
As The Register reports, an owner of a Samsung notebook contacted the company, as he discovered that his Broadcom wireless card wasn't working after upgrading to Windows 10. In an email to the customer, Samsung UK support said:
Honestly speaking, we don't suggest installation of Windows 10 to any Samsung laptop or PC and we are still coordinating with Microsoft regarding to this matter.
The Drivers that we have on our website are not yet compatible to the latest version of Windows. What we usually recommend is to keep the current Windows version and we'll update you once the Windows 10 have no more issues on any Samsung laptops and computers or even monitors.
The email apparently offered no further assistance beyond advising that the customer should get in touch with Microsoft at its UK headquarters near Reading.
After its article was published, The Register was contacted by Samsung with a statement in which a spokesperson apologised for the "incorrect information" provided to the customer:
We apologise for any confusion caused by a recent incident where a customer service representative mistakenly provided incorrect information about Windows 10 upgrades for Samsung notebooks. We would like to remind our customers that they can visit the Samsung website where there is detailed information on the Windows 10 upgrade applicability for each Samsung notebook model run by Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.
It's not clear if the support rep provided similar advice to other customers, or if this was an isolated incident.
Microsoft is continuing to offer Windows 10 as a free upgrade for all Windows 7 and 8.1 devices until July 29.
