Samsung to deliver phones using drones in Ireland

Reps from Samsung and Manna showing off the delivery drone

Samsung has announced a new partnership with Manna Drone Delivery. Under the new deal, Irish customers that purchase a selection of devices including the Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy Buds Pro, Galaxy Tab S7, Galaxy Watch 3 and devices in the Galaxy A Series will be able to get their order delivered by drone.

According to Samsung, this is the first time anywhere in the world that it has begun offering an end-to-end contactless experience for customers. The companies will offer the service to customers based in Oranmore initially but both Samsung and Manna say they’re keen to bring drone deliveries of Samsung goods to the rest of the country in the future.

Commenting on the partnership, Eamonn Grant, Head of Online for Samsung Ireland, said:

“At Samsung we are always looking for ways to bring meaningful innovation to our customers so we’re really excited to be the first technology company in Ireland to make our products available to our customers via drone delivery. To be able to deliver our products to our customers within three minutes of leaving the dispatch center is a brilliant example of innovation in motion. Superior customer experience is at the heart of what we do and with this new service we are embracing what we believe will be the future of retail. In the current environment, there is no better time to provide a contactless alternative to ‘click and collect’ and we are really thrilled to be partnering Manna to achieve this.”

The custom-developed aerospace-grade drones that Manna uses to deliver products direct to homes can fly at an altitude of 50-80 metres at speeds of over 60kph. With this data in-hand, Samsung expects that it will be able to drone-deliver its products to homes in Oranmore within just three minutes of dispatch. From today, those living in Oranmore can place orders that will be delivered by drone.
