As expected, the SCO Group has filed suit against an enterprise-Linux user, charging AutoZone with software-copyright violations. The suit alleges that AutoZone violated SCO's Unix copyrights by running versions of the Linux operating system that contain code from SCO's proprietary Unix System V software. SCO is seeking an injunction to prevent AutoZone from using the copyrighted materials in question, along with unspecified monetary damages.

SCO also announced a lawsuit against DaimlerChrysler, charging the automaker with violating its Unix software agreement by refusing to provide certification of compliance with the provisions of that agreement. That suit, filed in a Michigan circuit court, seeks an order preventing DaimlerChrysler from further violations of the software agreement, an injunction requiring DaimlerChrysler to remedy the effects of previous violations of the agreement, and unspecified damages. "DaimlerChrysler failed to respond to requests for compliance with our copyrights," SCO CEO Darl McBride said in a conference call Wednesday morning, adding that the recent legal actions represent an ongoing effort by SCO to educate users regarding the rights held by the company.
