Slow News Sunday: Apple store employees check out Microsoft Store in NJ

Microsoft continues to open up new locations for its Microsoft retail stores. On Saturday, the company opened up its 18th and latest store in Freehold, New Jersey. This time, the opening had some rather interesting visitors; Apple Store team members.

A reader at WPCentral.com spotted and took a picture of at least three people wearing Apple Store shirts at the opening. While we assume it's OK for Apple Store employees to go into any store they want, we do have to wonder why they did so at this location while still wearing their work uniforms.

The new Microsoft Store was opened at the Freehold Raceway Mall and as usual, Microsoft gave the added incentive of a free concert for the first people who attended the store's opening; this time the performer was singer (and The Voice judge) Cee Lo Green.

Microsoft had said back in 2011, when it had just 10 stores opened, that it would launch as many as 75 new Microsoft Store locations in the next two to three years. So far, the pace of new store openings has not yet caught up with that proposed time table.

There is word that Microsoft will open up a new location by the end of the year outside of the continental US for the first time. The Seattle Times reports that Microsoft will launch a new Microsoft Store at the Plaza Las Americas shopping center in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
