Sony has announced a partnership with Bad Robot Games for its debut project, which is being directed by the mind behind Left 4 Dead, Mike Booth.

Iconic horde shooter games like Left 4 Dead don't appear that often, but it looks like the mind behind the hit title is looking to return to the genre. Today, Sony announced that it is partnering up with Bad Robot Games, the video game division of JJ Abrams' production company Bad Robot, to publish a four-player cooperative game. The studio's Chief Creative Officer, Mike Booth, will be directing this experience, who was the designer of Left 4 Dead.

The new game does not have a public name attached to it just yet, with today's announcement focusing mostly on the partnership being formed between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Bad Robot Games.

“Partnering with Sony Interactive Entertainment allows us to bring our new IP to life, with an expansive vision for this new universe,” said Anna Sweet, CEO of Bad Robot Games. “With the support of PlayStation, we hope to deliver a bold, innovative experience that is truly special for players. I could not be more excited that Mike Booth is at the creative helm, crafting a cooperative adventure that will lead to unforgettable moments with friends.”

The cooperative experience will be the studio's first internally developed game. It's also unclear how far along the development is and if it will be a live service title akin to Helldivers 2 or a campaign-oriented experience like Left 4 Dead.

SIE

"Their unique creative voice and passion for innovating across all forms of interactive entertainment perfectly aligns with SIE’s mission to craft experiences that resonate deeply with players," adds Christian Svensson, VP and Head of 2P/3P Content Ventures & Strategic Initiatives at Sony Interactive Entertainment. "We can’t wait for gamers to step into the world they’ve been building."

While we don’t have much information about the project just yet, platforms are something the companies announced today. The Sony-published co-op project will be reaching both PlayStation 5 and PC.
