Surface Pro 7 and Laptop 3 get firmware updates ahead of official launch

Microsoft's recently-announced Surface Pro 7 and Surface Laptop 3 are set to be officially available starting tomorrow, but the company is already pushing out firmware updates ahead of the launch. Both devices are receiving both firmware and driver updates to improve the overall experience. The updates are available for users running Windows 10 version 1809 or later, which shouldn't really matter since the new Surface devices all ship with version 1903.

For the Surface Pro 7, there are five updates, which you can see below:

Windows Update History Name Device Manager Name
Surface - Firmware - 14.42.139.0

Surface System Aggregator– Firmware

  • 16.16.139.0 helps improve battery life.
Surface - System - 5.80.139.0

Surface Integration – System devices

  • 5.80.139.0 improves integration between services.
Surface - System - 21.25.139.0

Surface Integration Service Device – System devices

  • 21.25.139.0 improves integration between services.
Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - MEDIA - 6.0.8778.2

Realtek High Definition Audio(SST)– Sound, video and game controller

  • 6.0.8778.2 improves Cortana speech experience.
Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - Extension - 6.0.8778.2

Realtek Device Extension

  • 6.0.8778.2 improves Cortana speech experience.

The first three updates on this list are also available for both Intel and AMD models of the Surface Laptop 3, albeit with slightly different version numbers. However, they have some additional updates, too. For the Intel-based variants, you'll get this update as well:

Windows Update History Name Device Manager Name
Intel Corporation - Extension - 25.20.100.7101

Intel(R) Iris(R) Plus Graphics – Display adapters

  • 25.20.100.7101 helps improve battery life.

And for the AMD-based Surface Laptop 3, you'll get these two:

Windows Update History Name

Device Manager Name
Surface - System – 2.42.139.0

Surface Hot Plug – System devices

  • 2.42.139.0 improves device reliability.
Surface - HIDClass – 2.46.139.0

Surface Hid Mini Driver – Human interface devices

  • 2.46.139.0 improves device reliability.

The updates for the Surface Pro 7 are dated for today, but the Laptop 3 updates are actually dated for tomorrow, so if you got your devices a little sooner than expected, you may not see them right away. Nonetheless, you'll want to install them as soon as possible to get that added stability and improved battery life.
