The Lumia 800 has been in European stores for several weeks now, but if a new survey is to be believed, not too many Europeans seem to be interested in purchasing the latest smartphone from Nokia. Reuters reports that only 2.2 percent of the people who indicated plans to purchase a smartphone expressed any interest in buying the Windows Phone-based Lumia 800.
The survey was conducted by brokerage Exane BNP Paribas and at first surveyed 1,300 people who were in the five European territories where the Lumia 800 is being sold. The survey was narrowed down to 456 people who indicated that they planned to actually buy a new smartphone in the next month.
According to analyst Alexander Peterc, "With only 2.2 percent of surveyed buyers firmly intending to purchase the Lumia, Nokia's first flagship Windows Phone is ... far behind the current blockbusters, Apple's iPhone 4S and Samsung's Galaxy S II." The survey did not indicate the percentages of people who had plans to purchase any of the other phones besides the Lumia 800.
Nokia won't likely reveal its sales figures for the Lumia 800 launch until it announces its overall fourth quarter 2011 financial numbers, which should happen sometime in January. Nokia has not indicated when the Nokia 800 will be released here in the US. The Nokia 710 will be launched in the US on January 11 via T-Mobile.
