Vivaldi for iOS gets Reader View, offering distraction-free browsing

Vivaldi has released its latest snapshot for iOS users, which includes a Reader View feature to reduce page clutter when reading articles.

Vivaldi has introduced a new Reader View in its latest iOS browser snapshot (version 3755.4), which gives you a distraction-free reading experience by removing extraneous elements of web pages with longer articles. To use it, you’ll just tap on the Reader View button in the Address Bar.

It’s important to understand that this is a snapshot build, not the stable Vivaldi iOS browser. It will allow Vivaldi to test the feature among users who download it via Apple TestFlight to find any issues before rolling it out more widely to everybody. Vivaldi’s decision to include a reader mode on iOS perfectly fits its ethos of making a browser for power users with tons of features.

The new snapshot not only includes a new Reader View mode, but it also comes with several bug fixes and minor improvements. For example, it fixes an iPad issue with CMD+L not showing the omnibox in fullscreen, a new tab setting not working, and translation panel crashes for certain languages.

There are also minor enhancements like a context menu for the Search icon on the bottom toolbar and the translation snackbar appearing at the bottom. Vivaldi has also made it possible to set the snapshot browser as the default browser.

If you want to help make Vivaldi better and decide to install this experimental snapshot build, you’ll be able to give your feedback. If you have Vivaldi stable already installed, this snapshot won’t be installed on top of it; they’ll be available side by side. They also have their own settings, which minimize the risk for testers.

If you value stability, it’s probably best to stick with Vivaldi stable. This snapshot has a known issue regarding full-page translation in multiple-script languages where the page will fail to translate. If you want to learn more, you can check out Vivaldi's blog post.
