If you are not familiar with VLC, it's a highly popular media player that can play all kinds content in a lightweight environment. The player is available on many different platforms and it looks like Windows Phone support will soon officially be added too.

If you head to the Windows Phone store, you will see that there are VLC apps in the market but they are not the official player and some are even trying to charge a premium for their app while piggybacking on the VLC name. But now, thanks to the VLC team, there is an official app that wears the orange cone proudly.

The VLC app adds another high quality product to the Windows Phone store that the platform sorely needs. While big name apps have shown up, like Instagram, they are typically not supported that well and updates are infrequent, at best.

If you did register and use the app, let us know how it works for you in the comments below
