WhatsApp has released a new iOS update, version 25.24.77, which expands the GIF keyboard layout from two to three columns for some users. The new feature is expected to be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks and provides a consistent experience with the already-released Android version of the feature. The move is part of a broader effort by WhatsApp to improve the user experience across platforms.
The new layout allows users to view 50% more GIFs at once by displaying an extra GIF per row. This reduces the need for extensive scrolling, making it easier to find and share the right GIF. The update is particularly useful in popular and trending sections where many GIFs are available.
To achieve the new layout, Meta has had to slightly reduce the width of each GIF to accommodate the third column. Users likely wonβt mind that though if it means easier access to GIFs.

The new layout optimizes screen space on modern smartphones and tablets, which were previously underutilized by the two-column view. The updated interface has a more modern, visually balanced, and organized appearance which provides a cleaner browsing experience and adapts seamlessly to different screen sizes, including smaller devices.
The faster GIF discovery process helps to maintain the natural flow of conversations, as users can react instantly with an animation. The updated interface allows you to navigate in a more streamlined fashion, reducing user frustration, in turn, this encourages more frequent use of the GIF feature within conversations. This improvement to the GIF search is rolling out gradually, so not all users will see it immediately.
