Dell XPS 13 (late 2017) unboxing and first impressions

Back in August, Dell announced a refresh for its flagship XPS 13 laptop. The main improvement over the device's predecessor is that it includes Intel's eighth-generation quad-core U-series processors. The firm says that this model is 44% more powerful than the one that was released last year.

Of course, the brand is also well-known for its InfinityEdge displays, which offer narrow bezels on the sides and top of the device. Unfortunately, this leaves the front camera placed underneath the screen, which is a bit awkward, and the only Windows Hello option as a fingerprint reader.

The quad-core Core i7-8550U processor that's in my review unit comes with Intel UHD Graphics 620. Alongside that is 16GB 2133MHz Dual Channel LPDDR3 SDRAM, and a 512GB PCIe SSD.

The XPS 13 isn't a convertible like many other companies' flagship portable PCs; instead, it's a traditional touchscreen laptop form factor. Dell does make an XPS 13 2-in-1, but that uses Y-series processors, which are the rebranded Core M-series chips.
