HP Spectre x360 with pen and 4K display unboxing and first impressions

Earlier this year, HP introduced a new version of its flagship consumer laptop, the Spectre x360, which includes a 4K display and pen support. Here's our unboxing and first impressions.

Earlier this year at CES 2017, HP announced a new model of its high-end Spectre x360 laptop. The new variant of the 13.3-inch device is the same as the old one, except it now has pen support and a 4K display.

When I published my review of the 2016 Spectre x360 in December, I gave it a 9.5 out of 10. It's a wonderful convertible laptop, but if you scroll down to the verdict badge in the article, you'll see that there were only two reasons that it lost that half of a point: there was no pen support, and no option for a screen with a greater resolution than 1080p.

And those are the exact problems that HP solved with this new model. It also comes in a new color, which you can see from the image above.

You'll see from the video below that there's a bit of confusion as to what kind of pen is used. HP told me that it's Wacom, and most Wacom pens - such as those bundled with the original Surface Pro and Samsung Galaxy Note-series devices - don't require a battery.
