Spectre x360 (2016) unboxing and first impressions: HP may have a winner

HP announced the 2016 model of the Spectre x360 in October, adding two Thunderbolt 3 ports, updating the specs, narrowing the bezels, and making it thinner and lighter than the 2015 model.

HP announced its refreshed model of the Spectre x360 a month ago, and it's better in just about every conceivable way than the 2015 version. Not only is it 9.67mm narrower from edge to edge, it's also 2.1mm thinner, making for an ultrabook that is portable, stylish, and powerful.

The 9.67mm that was shaved off all came from the bezel, as last year's model's bezel was 15.12mm, but the 2016 version is 5.45mm. It's 11% lighter as well, coming in at 2.85-pounds.

But it's not just about design and portability. Updated with seventh-generation Intel Kaby Lake Core i-series processors, it also packs two Thunderbolt 3 ports, which can do anything that a standard USB Type-C port can do and more. A single port can power one 5K monitor or two 4K monitors, although we're still waiting to hear back on just what the GPU can handle on this machine.

But if you want to use the Spectre x360 for consumption, you can do that too. HP is promising up to 15 hours of battery life from the ultrabook, and the Bang & Olufsen speakers promise a fantastic audio experience.
