A closer look at the 50th Anniversary Surface Laptop

Earlier this year, Microsoft began celebrating its 50th anniversary in various ways. It organized an employee-only anniversary celebration at its Redmond, Washington, campus and held a ress event featuring Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman, and several other past and present Microsoft leaders.

The Microsoft Surface team also joined the celebrations by giving away 50 special-edition Microsoft Surface Laptops created specifically for the anniversary. Microsoft recently sent us one of these laptops, which features several differences from the standard Surface Laptop currently available on the market. We’ll be posting our detailed hands-on soon, but here’s our first look at the device.

The special-edition Surface Laptop comes with a welcome card, a classic Microsoft logo on the keyboard palm rest, a 50th anniversary wallpaper, and a new anniversary logo in the boot menu. The device also features a gold-colored Microsoft logo on the lid and arrives in exclusive 50th anniversary packaging, which includes a short message printed on the back of the box.

Apart from these cosmetic differences, this is a standard Surface Laptop 7 with a 13.8-inch display, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. The laptop features an all-aluminum chassis made with recycled alloy and rare-earth metals. It feels rigid and resists flex, offering a premium, minimalist aesthetic in its moody black finish.

Interestingly, during the first startup, the device experienced a blue screen error. However, it recovered automatically and has been running smoothly since then.

This special-edition Surface Laptop serves as a stylish collector"s item, celebrating a significant milestone in Microsoft"s history. It’s a testament to Microsoft"s five-decade journey, blending modern hardware with a touch of nostalgia.

Microsoft also released the following special content to celebrate its 50th anniversary:
