Build 7140 details leaked?

Recommended Posts

I clearly said I wasn't repeating myself which I didn't therefore I have no record to change.

Besides I wasn't talking to you therefore it's none of your business.

Eerm. Since when was it only OK for you to respond to peoples' comments? O, and btw, by your reasoning, it was none of your business to respond to Lord Ba'al's post, as he wasn't necessarily talking to you:

That would really suck

Anyway, we'll see if those are true when 7140 (or a later build) leaks.

I already know it's not true. I've already said how and why I know twice now and I aint going to repeat myself for a third time. Read my first comment from yesterday on page 2.

It's great that your so obviously correct, but I'd (and clearly others) rather not have you smear it all over everyone every five seconds and then jump the gun whenever someone gets slightly irritated by it.

All I want in the RTM is the completion of the icon overhaul they started with Homegroup, Paint, Control Panel, etc.

WTF??? I'm only being informative towards Lord Ba'al. Nothing more to it and if he had a problem with what I said then I'm sure he can fight his own battle and tell me himself. I'm sure he doesn't need people poking their garden hoses into it.

I was just pointing out some vital information. Nothing wrong with that and I made three comments over 2 days so I wouldn't call that smearing it all over everyone every 5 seconds either. That's what I call an extreme exaggeratation.

Anyways think what you will. I don't really care.

Wow, Children, Chill.

Whatever build surfaces, we'll find out in due time. Steven Sinofsky keeps some elements still close to the chest. :)

Sorry, I haven't had my build fix recently and it's getting too me :p. My bad lee, my comments were out of proportion to say the least. Here's too hoping something leaks soon, :p

I can confirm that the list is correct, and that there are a few more entries:

11. Explorer has been ported to .NET for increased performance and functionality.

12. NTFS has been replaced by WinFS (this was the plan all along, but I couldn't tell you about it before because of NDAs).

13. New Aero Diamond theme, not just the maximize/minimize/close buttons.

You forgot the OSX Mode package. Basically like XP Mode but lets you run any standard OSX application package.

Edit: I checked with my sources and I'm allowed to talk about this now: Basically MS will be including a new technology that will provide virtual RAM and virtual display adapters to computers that don't have enough memory or a GPU that doesn't support Aero. This new software technology is so efficient that it can provide the features and performance of a modern NVidia mobile graphics chip on a four year old laptop with Intel GMA graphics. It will also allow computers with <= 1GB memory to perform as though they had 6GB, but of course you need to run the 64-bit version to see more than 3GB.

I know both of you were trying to be funny but posting rumors like that isnt right. People might get a mixed idea of Neowin if they google features in 7140 and see this.

It's a generalization; teenagers tend to be immature dumbasses. Saying you know mature and intelligent 14 year-olds is like saying that you know felons who are really nice.

There are felons who ARE nice. Even though they might have made a mistake (commited a crime) doesnt mean they are rude people.

There are a few forums that I browse. One is the Windows 7 forums site which I usually browse before browsing here becuse it simply has the best and latest for Windows 7. There is just too much crap here to wade thru at times and I usually get the the real scoop over there.

Do you guys remember MS announcing that they have a major announcement regarding Win 7 2 months ago?

Did they ever announce any thing? or, are they ever going to announce any thing?

lastly, what is the definition of MAJOR announcement on something that is feature complete other than release date and price?

That was XP mode.

Yea, however that announcement only will benifit a very few.

It will benefit many businesses, but not many home users, which is why I was extremely disapointed that that was their "major" announcement...

You forgot to add developers and students :)

Good point. As a developer, I could find it useful, but only when developing and doing work :p

I was hoping for something that would benefit me as a home user for when I'm just 'chilling' using the operating system in my spare time (even though a lot of my time is taken up by developing)

The mode is meant for business to run legacy programs that would run under XP but not on Windows 7.

I can't imagine why any new development would be taking place in a XP compatibility mode on a Windows 7 Ultimate OS, or why would anyone be developing in this mode to begin with. I also can't imagine why a student would want to or need to use this mode.

This mode was specifically targeting businesses running older applications.

This would be nice, just remember, Brandon works for MS , so what can he tell you ? Yes ?

So, i dont think it will be true. Sad but windows 7 UI is a vista aero improvement and that's all.

You're clearly missing the point that some applications might be needed to be checked for compatiblitiy on Windows XP as well, not to forget the fact that it contains IE 6, which you have to support developing for the web. It's not that hard to imagine. :)

You are clearly reaching to the far right to get some possible uses for this new XP Mode. Web developers already have the necessary tools to develop compatibility for IE6 without running XP. Apparently developers had no problems checking compatibility or developing for XP after Vista was released.

Microsoft over hyped the announcement based on the actual amount of people that this mode could possibly be of any use to. I think a LOT of us are still looking for the BIG announcement.

soo much for 7140 being real! Thread needs to be close now.

Give it a few more weeks.

If you want to become a moderator then I think the powers to be on Neowin would be open to the request. Send an email, you never know...
