[Official] Apple WWDC 2011 Keynote

iOS5 looks amazing.. can't wait. love the new camera features, tweet sheet, notifications, imessage, wireless updates and sync.. cant complain at all.

Lion looks sweet too but i was expecting a little more features instead of a repeat of whats already been said.

only $29 amazing,

I wonder how they were able to price it that low?

Simple - no physical media whatever (except for hardware-locked DL DVDs for new hardware). That is *despite* Snow Leopard having the same price, which was distributed entirely on physical media. This sounds more like an attempt to head off Hacks than anything else.

However, this plan will also mean exactly bupkis (as there is already App Store application piracy - look on any p2p site); determined pirates *will* pirate regardless. Also, there is now a one month wait until Lion arrives even on the AppStore.

Note to mods and the rest of Neowin - I am not condoning piracy; however, I'm not going to stick my head in the sand and pretend it doesn't exist, even from the AppStore.

Well, I guess Apple can't satisfy everyone.

Just curious, what were your expectations going into WWDC?

And I really hope you don't say (1) Flash or (2) more open App Store because Apple has been very resolute that neither of those things are coming and have given every indication that no one should expect those things.

No, I don't mind not having a more open App store or Flash, I just expected a better UI, a new lockscreen, widgets (iPad only), and a ton of other stuff, not a News stand, or tabbed browsing or Messaging.

I think that's exactly what happened. I think they may have reached the point (for now) where they felt there wasn't much more they could do with the OS, so they decided to "fix" established features like Spaces and Expose, as well as make a few improvements to Finder and other places.

It seems Apple no longer believes in a separate OS for mobile devices and desktop computers. In a way, they're going with the same model as Microsoft in Windows 8: a completely scalable OS. Perhaps with 10.8 (if there is one), we will see more of this.

Wasn't Snow Leopard a major updates? (lots of new technologies in the background)..it's only natural the next 'non snow leopard update' would be a polished version of the previous major update?

Why would they change the UI when it works perfectly for them? There is a new lockscreen and we only got 10 of the new features shown to us today. There is still 190+ more to do.

take apple's 190+ with a grain of salt. they count moving a menu around as a new feature.

Well, you did get a better UI (more finger swipes, notifications, twitter, more finger friendly keyboard on the iPad) as well as a new lockscreen (notification, camera) as well as a ton of other stuff like OTA updates, Airplay mirroring, iMessaging, better Email and Safari...etc.

Apple has never given any indication that they were moving towards widgets so I don't know why that would be an expectation going into WWDC.

Or perhaps you were talking about your desires rather than you expectations for WWDC.

Moving a button is a new feature with Apple, don't believe what they tell you.

    • Less powerful than a PS5 at twice the price! I wonder if they use that for marketing? Totally DoA.

    • How does it compare to the "SeeStar S30 Pro" and the "Vespera PRO 2"?
    • Indeed. And note that those units are MUCH cheaper than this new Steam Machine...ahem.
