Windows 8 HAS NO START MENU

Recommended Posts

hey thanks alot for that :)

i already use the recycle bin one..

but didnt know the my computer one.

Microsoft should have added a menu to do it without looking for addresses and all.

ya I been using windows 7 Since the very first Windows 7 alpha build that allowed you to unlock the super bar. As a main oS (oh noise right? never use alpha builds for Full time use?) blow me I do it any ways. And the first build that lets me to use the Start Screen in windows 8 is when I'll switch over.

I know all the tweaks

i too been using windows 7 before it lauched.

since first BETA came out :p

then build 7022 i think.. was the most stable for me till RTM..

it was amazing how stable the BETA was.. it was like a full on OS without many bugs..

I sued the alpha builds as full time. sure it wasn't the most stable thing in the world but I knew most of the new stuff inside and out before it hit RTM. I even physical watch and used new features as they showed up or changed through out the development.

I tried to get Windows 8 7989 to load on my hardware but it panics on the first time load of windows services *this done on a clean install* so I may have to wait another build?

It loaded in the Vmware Just fine but that's not the same as being forced to use it all the time. so I sits on the back burner and ever now and then I play with it.. I'm so jealous though. Makes me wish windows 7 and the Ribbon menu integrated into explore.exe like Windows 8 has.

Sorry, but if thats true then it doesnt make sense, its totally wrong for desktop machines without touch screens or any other touch input devices. Moreover, its biggest inconsistency in UI that we ever seen (if they stay with concept of different look for so called Start Screen (Metro) and Classic Desktop (Aero)). I would understand Start Screen as optional feature durning installation process for touch devices only, but if they want to make it as default program launcher-information center, then im going to buy Mac or install some Linux distro.

linux ? lulz have you tired or seen Gnome 3? there no start menu in that ether. yes this is Fedora Core 15 Default GUI

In case you missed it

Gnome 3 Default GUI The Gnome menu (start menu) been replaced by something called activities (witch if you click on will give you this)

gnome3tutorial-large_006.jpg

no Menu what so ever. instead a Tile of icons to TOUCH or click. YES even linux Long Standing Gnome Desktop has gone with Touch in mined by default but still works with a mouse and keyboard

welll i dont like ribbon btw..

anyway its useless to do a win8 leak if it dun have the new UI..

either that..

or the new AERO..which microsoft is hiding from us.

Mark my words. We desktop users will have a new UI.. and no im not talking about the TILES.

Btw im pretty sure ill be the first one in my country to download and try a leak with the new UI :p

Of course i know, but Gnome 2 is still available and KDE 4 still utilizes the classic desktop metaphor.

Gnome 2 is out dated and KDE is Fuggly.

I actually like Gnome 3 and wish I could use it as a default desktop for windows at this current moment until win8 comes out

all this demoing of tablet crap if they put it anywhere near desktop or notebook systems it's going to turn into the next windows vista. majority of people don't care about tablets or their gimmicky interfaces and crap and just want to use their computer to do simple stuff like they've been doing in same way for past 10 years or so.

Or pin them to the explorer slideout/rightclick menu even.

I meant

If you have windows Explore Pinned to the taskbar you *wouldn't* need the start menu for *computer* or Control Panel

since Windows Explore (pinned) linked to *Computer* which has Control Panel on the list you would need to pin both CP or Computer to the task bar. Witch save at lest 1 icon space for others

at least GNOME3 looks usable with a KB and mouse. and still feels at home for both devices. MS should have taken this approach.

You'll be able to choose between the new tablet interface and the standard windows 7 interface. Anyone who thinks you won't be able to choose to use the standard interface is living in a fantasy world.

well at lest Gnome 3 has a search bar within the *activates*

my only concern with the Start Screen or the Desktop with out a start Menu is "were is the search bar?" since that's the only thing I use the current start menu for anyways

I find it amusing how you argue about a product of which no one outside the Redmond campus really knows what the final version will look and feel like. All we've seen in early June are a few glimpses of the future UI; other than that there's a whole lot of speculation based on data found in months-old leaked builds which can and will still change between now and beta.

It makes no sense to have this argument before BUILD in September, which is when the juicy bits of information about Windows 8 will be shared with the public.

^I kinda agree with you there. Though they did already say that there's going to be a GUI aimed for desktop and one more aimed towards tablets. Besides that you're right though. It's better to wait and see what Microsoft has in store for Windows 8

I think that Microsoft is taking the better approach here. I can imagine that the Metro interface works a lot better on a tablet then the desktop version of Windows. Small menu items and whatnot would become annoying to use. If I'd ever buy a tablet I'd rather have it using a UI that's made for tablets, instead of a desktop UI installed on a tablet.

No one's telling you you HAVE to use the Metro UI when you want to use your mouse and keyboard, there's a choice for the users. That's what this topic is all about and is trying to explain.

Plus they won't have to make 3 types of OS-es this way; Desktop, tablet and a phone OS. Now they only have to make 2 which also saves companies money for licences.

Don't knock it yet. Microsoft is know-en to Force new features on to people to make sure it goes standard.

ie The ribbon in MS Office 2007 . No longer supported the Menu bar.

Ie Ribbons in Windows 8 Explore.exe will be standard as well. No longer be able to chooses the old menu bar once it s full implanted.

Windows 3.1 to 95 was completely new experience to.

For all we know windows 8 could be another windows 95 all over again were they complete redesigned the entire front end of windows

Plus they won't have to make 3 types of OS-es this way; Desktop, tablet and a phone OS. Now they only have to make 2 which also saves companies money for licences.

its one OS across all devices not 2 (unless you mean Windows Phone & windows PC, Arm and Tablets) then its sorta 2. Since ARM, X86, X64 All in one PC and Tablets will all use the same os and work all the same way.

jack of all trades master of none approach? w8 seems to do it.

we have separate oses for a reason. becuase input is different. people's needs are different on each device. I'd rather have an OS optimized for the device I'm using... not some half ass attempt at both.

I don't want touch stuff becuase I don't use or have a touch device exept my phone. not very many people have tablets.

the classic desktop UI will be limited to compensate in some way.. the start menu is disabled and goes to the start screen.... a place we dont want on our desktops! so you can't really turn it off unless you tweak the hell out of it, which I'm sure people will find a way and realease patches.

but what's the point of working so hard to patch it when you can just stick with windows 7... easier

What Microsoft is do is what your not doing.

There looking into the future of PCs and information. Before you know it we all have Wall mounted Displays with 100% touch and working on Tables that have touch interfaces to. (Surface any one) Its no longer about how you crate data but how you work with it instead. (unless your a dev)

so ya naturally there going to have to start some where. so why not start but making sure people have to use interfaces that will be 100% Ready for the future. and since the mouse can emulate touch (or have multiple-mice) to emulate multi touch why not?

were the Ginnie pigs that be used for what will be mainstream in 10 or so years?

lol wut?

Metro was designed for a phone os, just because he doesnt like it doesnt mean he automatically likes grids of icons.

I have 100s of apps and games installed, with the stupid massive squares the start screen is going to scroll on forever, i dont want to select a big square with my mouse, Metro is only useful for touch.

actually metro wasn't strictly designed for a phone only ether. Believe it or not but metro first showed some of it first UI and backbone Components on the MS Surface Table. its not just about Tile and click them to start app. Its also about how it display information in real time as well as how you can work it with the information.

The system requirements for the Start Screen will be resolution and a shader model 2.0 graphics card like for the AERO UI.

my only concern is......let me see if i can make a mockup.

I want AN OPTION ... to disable SNAP feature... and be able to drag edges to widen up or shorten the APP SIZE to my needs... Its ok if some apps like twitter and stuff SNAP to different SIZE MODES.. SMALL MEDIUM LARGE FULLSCREEN.

but apps like IE10 should be resizable without such snap points to whatever size i want. So i can open and have multiple pages around the screen at one time so i can read around the pages without having to SELECT or TAP OR CLICK to view page. then click back to view 2nd.

The apps should be able to SNAP in HALF .. as they do 1/3rd.

All in all. I think microsoft cannot do this. They have never done this. They have always given possibility for customized sizes or other things. But my only concern is WP7... which is totally blocked in such way. But that is because its a PHONE UI.. i dont want that to be present in a tablet or desktop UI.

this.

The well-organized format ensures easy access to the required information. You can export all the gathered data to a plain text file, facilitating sharing with others for troubleshooting purposes. No installation needed. Just decompress the archive, launch the executable, and access computer-related information. Glow runs on Windows 11 and Windows 10 64-bit versions. Glow 26.10 changelog: New Features The bootstrapping algorithm has been completely redesigned. The software can now launch directly without requiring TS Preloader. As part of this change, the startup splash screen displayed during initialization has been removed. In addition, spikes in CPU usage have been eliminated, resulting in a more stable architecture with significantly lower memory consumption. The Microsoft Office detection infrastructure within the Operating System section has been enhanced. Additional detection support has been added for Office C2R (Click-to-Run) installations. Furthermore, the license status evaluation system has been improved, and the priority order has been revised as follows: Licensed > Grace Period > Other (NOTIFICATIONS, EVALUATION, etc.). Glow now includes preliminary support for Wi-Fi 8 technology, allowing more detailed information to be displayed for Wi-Fi 8-compatible network adapters. Glow now provides full support for Bluetooth 6.2. Adapters supporting Bluetooth 6.2 can be analyzed in greater detail and with improved accuracy. The disk distribution view in the Disk section has been modernized, replacing the traditional table layout with a new 2×2 card-based design. The TS Custom Controls module has been updated to v26.7. Thanks to the new custom controls, all Türkaysoft applications now offer a more modern and consistent user interface aligned with Windows 11 design standards. Bug Fixes Potential line-ending handling issues in the Office detection code within the Operating System section have been resolved. Additionally, the output format has been standardized to UTF-8 to prevent character encoding issues and ensure consistent data processing. Several stability and file management issues within the Debugging infrastructure have been addressed. Problems that prevented new log files from being created after Debugging was disabled, as well as issues causing debug records to be lost, have been fixed. File deletion and reaccess issues that occurred after file locks were released have also been resolved. In addition, a bug that caused newly recreated log files to remain locked after deletion has been eliminated. Unnecessary blank lines within debug logs and the extra empty line that could appear at the end of log files have also been corrected. A shortcut key conflict caused by assigning identical hotkeys to both the DNS Test Tool and the Donation page has been fixed. The DNS Test Tool can now be accessed using CTRL + Shift + D, while the Donation page is available via CTRL + Alt + D. Changes The service responsible for providing the Public IP Address and Internet Service Provider information in the Network section has been updated to use the ipinfo.io infrastructure. This change improves the accuracy and consistency of the displayed data. (No external requests are made while Hiding Mode is enabled.) Some terms in the Dutch and Korean language files have been updated to make them clearer and more user-friendly. [TS Updater] Before the update process begins, users are now prompted to choose whether they would like to view the release notes. Note: Always unzip the program before using it. Otherwise you may get an error. Download: Glow 26.10 | 1.8 MB (Open Source) Links: Glow Homepage | Screenshot | Github Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
