It looks like the same game. What's holding them back is the engine. It has reached the end of its life in terms of image quality. Frostbite 2, CryENGINE 3, and Unreal Engine 3 are all better in just about every way. The only benefit they have is being able to run MW3 at 60 FPS on console hardware. The engine will be of no use once this generation ends.

Anyway, I'm still willing to buy it for multiplayer. If it's well-balanced and fun, then I'll put many hours into it.

I agree with you completely.

That's still not enough for me to buy it, but I respect the decision of those who do. The fact that it is practically the same game in a sense allows me to play any other Call of Duty since Modern Warfare 1 without missing anything.

I want to add that better graphics dont always mean less framerates.

I was surprised how well Crysis 2 looked and how damn well it performed on my aging system. It was amazing how smooth it was.

On the same note i cant even compare RAGE.. that game has this texture popping thing that ruins it!.. and i dont get it. If i could run Crysis 2 .. why not RAGE? i have same complaint with Frostbite 2. Its not really that optimised. But it does look really really good.

MW engine is very old. It does the job. Actually MW2 had some wow moments. And they looked awesome. But it went downhill in Black Ops again. So dont know what to expect from this one.

it's cause treyarch did it... not infinity ward.

speaking of, anyone find any PC deals yet?

Not that I have any interest in the game but I've been looking out for deals on it. However, most places that have it still have it as $59.99 because they are pushing for sales of Battlefield 3. Wait until after Battlefield 3 is out and then you'll start seeing pre order sales for it.

And about the engine being a porchse, I think it goes without saying that there are newer cars that perform better, look better, and cost less.

lol i agree with two of the three of the analogies. one thing no one can talk **** about CoD games is the performance. games run awesome on consoles and variety of PCs (cause it uses an engine older then time...)

I will be the first person to say the call of duty franchise has had its problems, its biggest problem child being mw2. (oma, danger close, noobtubes, commando, last stand, over powered shot guns, and who can forget quick scoping scrubs, should i continue? lol). I was very skeptical to even touch another IW game after the train wreck that mw2 was and how they made a game where lack of skill and cheap tatics could pull triumphant over skill. Alas, the franchise has done what it does best and has caught my attention and I have pre-ordered mw3 hardened. The kill streak trees, and being able to set a class; each class with diff kill streaks is a change that is going to make the game feel a lot different, not to mention a nice line up of perks. I am disappointed that quick scoping is back, I don't know what the developers were thinking. However with the addition of survival mode, the return of spec ops, and a multiplayer that looks vastly improved over mw2 I think this is a must buy for anyone who enjoys call of duty. I just hope the same balance that was in black ops is in mw3, and that the connection is as good as mw2's and not as bad as black ops.

A few things in this thread I have to laugh about. You have the CamperField 3 players coming in here talking trash about call of duty, which are completely different games, they can't be compared. Next, you have the "graffix r all dat matter 4 realz!!!" people, which I can't determine which is worse. I will personally take lesser graphics for the ability to move fluently in call of duty, vs other games with better graphics where moving the character feels like moving a bag of bricks, and you continually collide into walls. I don't buy call of duty for graphics and neither do alot of other people.(kill zone 3 graphics game me headaches). Lastly, you have the people claiming mw2 was better than black ops. Mw2 was a game where cheap tatics turned a bad player good, black ops took raw gaming skill to succeed, which I get why so many cried about it.

In the end I think this is going to be a fun game with some nice, long over due additions and a game that is going to be particularly fun for those who have another friend to play with (because of spec ops and survival mode). Personally, I can't wait until the 8th.

Treyarch actually brought some cool features into the game and tried balancing the multiplayer mess that is MW2. It wasn't perfect but it was a few steps into the right direction...

When I saw the multiplayer preview of MW3 it felt as if I was watching an updated MW2. That said, I've already preordered it because it seems they are at least trying to balance the multiplayer aspect of the game... probably what MW2 should've been.

I think CoD4 is the best in the series as far as perks go. Simple and not overpowered. Less riding the chopper gunners, no sr-71, no attack dogs... the kills actually indicated true skill and not someone that rode the killstreaks into kill inflation.

I want to add that better graphics dont always mean less framerates.

The engine Treyarch used is different from the one Infinity Ward used, although I thought that Jason West and Vince Zampella took the license from the IW-engine with them.

cause it has the best multi player... and the stories are epic.

Um.. best multiplayer is Battlefield 3 if we want to be real here and if you are talking about the experience and technical execution. COD series has grown into game that's satisfyingly kids with the non-existent attention span and anti-social and self-serving tendencies. The reason it's popular is because it doesn't require any real skill and rewards heavily lone wolf gameplay.

Stories were epic indeed and why I was a big fan of Call of Duty games.. but that all went to crapper with MW2 and I will give them one last chance to with MW3 in terms of singleplayer but I'm actually much more pessimistic this time around. After seeing the MW3 multiplayer, I can freely say that I think they are milking a dying cow. It looks identical to MW2 with some minor adjustments to perks or whatever.

I have zero excitement for MW3. I was hugely excited for MW2 because the last good COD game was Call of Duty 4 and was hoping it would carry on superb story telling of previous games. It failed. The experience was ok but the story was convoluted and completely lackluster despite the fact that it was actually about World war 3 breaking out.

Battlefield 3 is by far the absolute best multiplayer experience i have enjoyed in the last 10 years or so. It's so epic in moments and diverse that anyone who plays it is blown away. It is also very rewarding for team play.

well number one selling video game franchise says differently. and this is a more of a PC game then BF3 is. our own dedicated servers :) and i am glad one map in a buggy beta could make you feel that BF3 is the best game ever, that doesn't sound fanboyish at all...

Not that I'm disputing anything either of you are saying but we all know sales determine how good a game actually is, right?

fair enough, it is an opinion, but sales numbers and metacritic rating helps one case... and it's not like i didn't love/still love playing bc2

True enough. Playing BF3 or MW3 doesn't mean the other game disappears from existence. People can own and play both.

So how do you MW3 fans feel about kill streaks being remade so you can get the rewards for them without actually killing people now? Not trying to troll or anything, serious question.

we'll have to see how it pans out when i play it. it kinda makes sense as to why they are doing it, pain in the ass killing people with your perks but not getting credit for it... but usually the perks where they'll actually kill people for you, you already have to kill 6-8 people on your own first. but once again, gotta play it first.

and if anything, CS is the best online FPS shooter ever ;)

Infinity Ward “put a ton of emphasis” on the Modern Warfare 3 PC experience

Robert Bowling posted information pertinent to the PC version of Modern Warfare 3 on the game’s community site today, and according to Infinity Ward’s creative strategist, the development team has “put a ton of emphasis,” on the PC experience.

mw3-art.jpg

Bowling said the team brought back “all the great things,” added Modern Warfare 2 such as matchmaking, the lobby, and Steam integration, combined with dedicated servers and the in-game server included in the original Modern Warfare.

“In addition, we’re supporting PC specific features that give you even more control over your experience like RCON, Custom Game Saving, NoGFX / Audio Card Requirement on DS.exe, Voice Chat, and SSAO,” he said.

According to Bowling’s post, the PC version of the game supports private match options customizable through private and dedicated server games with “full control over Class Restrictions, Custom Game mode creation,” and access to unique private match modes like One in the Chamber, Gun Game, and Infected.

Dedicated Servers will allow players to “find and filter via an in-game server browser,” or set-up private Dedicated Server for complete control, without being restricted by any third-party hosting requirements. Users can also filter and favorite servers by “Ping, Map, Gametype, Hardcore Variants, Voice, Password,” and other options.

“We value the PC player and have gone to great lengths inproviding a more rich experience for our players,” said Bowling. “We keep our ear near the ground and try todeliver items most requested. The big feature for MW3 we are supporting is Dedicated Servers, this includes a server browser, voting, RCON, and more.

“Also we’ve implemented some PC only rendering features including SSAO. Lastly we are embracing the Steam platform by integrating fully with Steam including friends list, and Steam achievements.”

The complete list of PC specific notations are through here. Minimum specs for PC are posted below.

    • An actual cosmic "Eye of Sauron" had been looking straight at us all along by Sayan Sen Image by Kovin P. Vasquez via Pexels | Not representative An international team of researchers has solved a long-standing mystery surrounding a distant blazar known as PKS 1424+240, helping explain why it produces some of the brightest high-energy gamma rays and cosmic neutrinos ever observed despite appearing to have a relatively slow-moving jet. The findings were published on June 6 in Astronomy & Astrophysics Letters. The study addresses a broader challenge in astrophysics: understanding how extreme cosmic objects accelerate particles to very high energies and produce very high-energy (VHE) photons and neutrinos. PKS 1424+240 is located billions of light-years from Earth. It has attracted attention for years because it is both a powerful source of VHE gamma rays and the brightest known neutrino-emitting blazar in the sky, according to observations by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. It is also associated with one of the strongest peaks in IceCube's nine-year neutrino sky map A blazar is a type of active galactic nucleus powered by a supermassive black hole that pulls in surrounding matter and launches jets of plasma moving close to the speed of light. What makes blazars unique is their orientation. One of their jets points almost directly toward Earth, making them appear exceptionally bright across the electromagnetic spectrum and allowing scientists to study some of the most extreme physical processes in the Universe. The scientists exclaimed it's like the 'Eye of Sauron' in deep space. Usually, the brightest gamma-ray-emitting blazars are expected to have jets that appear to move very quickly. However, radio observations of PKS 1424+240 suggested that its jet was moving much more slowly, creating a contradiction that became part of a long-running problem known as the "Doppler factor crisis." To investigate, researchers analyzed 15 years of observations from the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), a network of 10 radio antennas spread across the continental United States, Hawaii and St. Croix. Using a technique called Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), astronomers combine signals from widely separated radio telescopes to create a virtual Earth-sized telescope capable of revealing extremely fine details. The team combined 42 polarization-sensitive radio images collected between 2009 and 2025, creating a much deeper and more detailed view of the jet than had previously been possible. The observations were carried out as part of MOJAVE (Monitoring Of Jets in Active galactic nuclei with VLBA Experiments), a long-running program that studies the brightness, polarization and magnetic field structures of jets produced by active galaxies. The project aims to better understand how activity near supermassive black holes is linked to high-energy radiation and neutrino emission. “When we reconstructed the image, it looked absolutely stunning,” said Yuri Kovalev, lead author of the study and Principal Investigator of the European Research Council-funded MuSES project at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “We have never seen anything quite like it — a near-perfect toroidal magnetic field with a jet, pointing straight at us.” The image revealed an unusual geometry. The researchers found that Earth lies almost directly in line with the jet, with a viewing angle of less than 0.6 degrees. In simple terms, astronomers are looking almost straight down the jet. This turned out to be the key to the mystery. Because the jet is aimed almost directly at Earth, a relativistic effect called Doppler boosting dramatically increases its apparent brightness. The study found that this effect boosts the emission by a factor of about 30 while also making the jet appear slower than it actually is. “This alignment causes a boost in brightness by a factor of 30 or more,” said Jack Livingston, a co-author at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “At the same time, the jet appears to move slowly due to projection effects — a classic optical illusion.” The nearly head-on view also gave scientists a rare look at the jet's magnetic field. Using polarized radio signals, they detected a clear toroidal, or doughnut-shaped, magnetic field component. The observations suggest the jet carries an electric current and that its magnetic field helps launch, shape and stabilize the flow of plasma. Researchers believe this magnetic structure may also play a key role in accelerating particles to energies high enough to produce both gamma rays and neutrinos. “Solving this puzzle confirms that active galactic nuclei with supermassive black holes are not only powerful accelerators of electrons, but also of protons — the origin of the observed high-energy neutrinos,” Kovalev said. The research was conducted under the MuSES (Multi-messenger Studies of Energetic Sources) project, which investigates how active galactic nuclei accelerate particles and generate different cosmic signals, including light and neutrinos. Scientists say understanding how protons are accelerated and linked to neutrino production remains one of the major unanswered questions in astrophysics. The findings help explain why some blazars can appear to have slow jets while still producing extremely bright high-energy emissions. More broadly, the study strengthens the link between relativistic jets, magnetic fields, gamma rays and high-energy neutrinos. Researchers say the results provide new clues about how some of the Universe's most powerful natural particle accelerators work and offer important insights for multimessenger astronomy, which combines different types of cosmic signals to study extreme events in space.
