The 2003 Neowin MLB Playoff Thread

He had a good game, i'm not gonna make excuses like everyone else in this forum seems to do.

But the red sox won't move on.  They don't have enough pitching.  Like I said in my first post.

Well you'd know this if you had paid any attention to the Sox/A's games, but their pitching hasn't been the problem. It's their batting that has killed them.

The big 4...Nomar, Mueller, Ramirez, and Millar have gone a combined 11-52, ZERO RBI, and 27 runners left on base. That's a .211 Batting average. If you take out Nomar's stats, which are so-so, it gets worse...6-40, ZERO RBI, and 22 left on base, with a .150 batting average. That is terrible! Sorry, but Boston's pitching hasn't lost this series, it's Boston's big hitters that will cost them the series. With Boston's 7 runs per game average on offense, their pitchers have more then done their part.

you just proved my point, the a's have better pitching, hence, boston will not score as much

You're so wrong. Did you even watch the game? The Sox had amazing pitching this whole series, and Pedro is gonna pitch game 5.

The problem is that they finished with a record slugging percentage and so far they haven't hit crap. Not because the A's have amazing pitchers though, as was proven today.

I agree with you threetonesun. When their offense starts up, everyone needs to watch out. They have an excellent offense. One of the best in the AL imo. Also, their momentum should carry them to the NLDS win.

And also, the Yankees won. So a Red Sox v. Yankees ALCS would be sweet.

Mother ****ing umpires just screwed us. Lofton clearly caught a ball hit to the outfield with 2 on and 0 out, but they said he didnt catch it, so he throws it in, a runner scores and Giles, who was at 1st, is out because Sheffield who hit the ball passed him at first base. Horrible umpiring. Should be 4-0.

Not just sweet, super sweet. And I'm putting my money on whomever takes the AL to win the WS. I just don't think the NL teams have it this year, although Florida could suprise me.

Hell officially dropped a few hundred degrees tonight. The Cubs ended their 95 year streak, and Boston pulled another one out of their, err gloves.

Man, this really sucks, the Yankees are my favorite team, and Oakland is my second favorite, but I really want to see the Redsox and the Cubs in the World Series (and hell actually would freeze over at that point).

If the impossible does happen, Chicago over Boston in 7. Otherwise it'll be Yanks over the Cubs in 6.

well i just got back from the falcons and braves games, and i am frustrated to say the least. i'm happy for the cubs fans for finally winning a series, but i am getting really tired of this same sh1t every year.. some other team comes along that actually has some emotion in october and they always beat us out. whatever, im gonna be recovering from this for a few days.. since the falcons suck i was looking forward to hockey season, then as i left the ballpark tonight i hear on the radio that Atlanta Thrashers center Dan Snyder has died. just a pretty crappy day for an atlanta sports fan.

as for the playoffs.. now im going with red sox over cubs in 7

Not quite. Giles was out because he didn't go to second base. There was a force there. Sheffield COULD have been out if he would have passed Giles. The Umps said that the cubs stepped on second base to get Giles out BEFORE sheffield passed him. It was a close play though. If the Cubs would have touched second AFTER sheffield passed Giles, Sheffield would have been out on site, but since they said Giles was already out, he was ok.

I had stepped out urinal.gif and missed that play.

I started rooting for the Cubs after my Phils got eliminated, but its getting tough, since my brother in-law is a life long Cubs fan, and seeing him so happy is giving me pains :pinch:

yeah there was one guy in my section that didnt know what to do with himself.. he jumped over the tarp and ran out on the field waving a cubs pennant, giving high fives to sosa and lofton. security didnt see him i guess.. the grounds crew came out and tackled him. he got arrested and walked off the field sticking his tongue out at everyone.. the rest of the cubs fans seemed to be pretty well behaved.

the drunk ones in my section werent all that great, more like annoying, but it was a great game to see in person, too bad braves didnt win :(

Yea, that is going to be an awesome matchup. I will be rooting for you guys.

Anyways, Im sure the Cubs fans were ###### at the game. Mocking the tomahawk chop and all, but I live in Chicago and flew down for game 2 and I can see why. The tomahawk chop is the most ****ing racist and annoying thing I have ever witnessed in my life. And it just goes non-stop.

    • I wonder if "put it back the way it was for decades" ever crossed their minds? 🤣
    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.
    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.
    • If the drive/memory is soldered to the board, which it probably is, then it's a no from me
