hehe, i like jeter, only cuz we went to grade school together. other than him, i hate the yankees :p

i hate the chop too, but i've never found that stuff racist, as it's all about the fierceness/power of the indians. but if you have a cheer like that, you know it's gonna come back to you if you lose.

im a huge braves fan and i absolutely despise the chop.. its so freakin annoying. in the playoffs they give everyone tomahawks at the gate and then like 10 minutes before the game they say "we are about to be joined by a national television audience. lets get a warmup version of the tomahawk chop going and welcome america to tomahawk country" WTF is that? then it goes on and on and on forever while fox does their damn hour long pregame show. then once the game starts, they do the chop seemingly any time the opposing pitcher throws a ball. god forbid we get a runner on base before we start chanting.

anyways, none of you will have to worry about the chop again until next year, so for tonight, go Sox!!

The Cubs victory was awesome! And the great thing about being a Cub fan for the last 20 years and seeing them lose is that this NLCS berth makes us just wanna party and celebrate what we have now. I think all Cubs fans are really just enjoying the moment, they aren't sitting around saying "We're going all the way, we got Sosa, Alou, etc." We are just drinking our poisons and enjoying our time over here on Addison and Waveland.

We have absolutely the greatest fans in the world, my ****ing money down the drain for all those season tickets I got for all those years, ABSOLUTELY PAID OFF! Well, at least my Dad's money, he says it's paid off by just seeing them in the NLCS, I love it, I'll be at Wrigley for game 1 and 2, and it's gonna be awesome! Have fun everyone!

its quite an accomplishment.. but its sad that the fans have become spoiled now and wouldnt even sell out a playoff game if it werent for the cubs

Well Oakland didn't sell out division game 2 against Boston this year. And in regular season, Atlanta has better average fans then Chicago Cubs at games.

also, how many braves fans did you see at wrigley field the other night? and how cubs fans at turner field?.. if not for the cubs, there would only have been about 40,000 people at those games

i guess it's just human nature. as i cub fan, i see this as a once in a lifetime thing. if i had the money, i woulda flown to atlanta to see the game. it just means more for cubs fans, and yeah, humans tend to take things for granted.

i just wish it could mean that much to braves fans.. i know it does to me.. i'd rather have spoiled fans than a 95 year world series drought though ;)

I beg to differ. In a city full of transplants with devotions to other teams besides Atlanta teams. And the very fact that the expectation is that Atlanta will meltdown in the playoffs every year, it's not surprising to me to see that Atlanta can't sell out. Even if the Cubs fans didn't come down, I bet we would've sold out the games. Because if we sell out regular season games against the Mets this year, we would've done the same for the playoffs.

in a city of 4 million plus, im sure there are 50,000 fans who care enough about baseball to come see a playoff game. we didnt sell out the first 2 games against the giants last year, nor did we against the astros and cardinals in years past. the expectation that we will blow it in the playoffs is irrelevant. its the playoffs. each year could be the last time the braves are in the playoffs for god knows how long.. they cant and shouldnt be taken for granted, nor should the results of them. and as for selling out the mets, thats during the summer.. people bring their whole families out to the ballpark. but thats no excuse. there is no excuse

Atlanta probably wouldn't have sold out the Division series. Historically, they have fairly poor attendance for the first round series of the playoffs.

In a city of 4 million that has added more then 2 million or 50% of that total in the last decade and half alone. Again, city of transplants and unless Braves prove they can consistently win in the playoffs they will not show up, even though I think this year they would have.

How does expectation that we will blow it in playoffs irrelevant? A consumer or fan won't pay for a product if they don't think they could win or have expectations that we won't. If the Braves hadn't won these past 12 division titles and lets say this was Braves first division title, you don't think the Braves would've sold out? Past Playoff experiences is exactly why we won't draw, unless that continuation of playoff dissappointment changes we will continue to do so. There are no excuses, but there are definitely understandings in to why we don't sell out. To many Braves people, winning a Division Series is nothing. They only want the ring. Sure, Atlanta fans take it for granted but most people will tell you they would rather have a losing season then a heartbreak division series loss.

Bandwagoner fan mentality: 1991 oh great Atlanta's doing well, let's root for the Braves. 1995 We taste World Series Victory. 1997 - 2003 Dissappointment after dissappointment anything less then world series is worthless. Big hopes for playoffs after winning division but constant dissappointments, Bandwagoner says Braves are chokers & decides not to support team anymore. We have 2 million of these types of people here in Atlanta.

I think one of the big things about Chicago is that Wrigley is the original field. It isn't a huge futuristic looking field, it's not large and bulky, it's like a home to many of us, I've seen so many games there, drank so much beer there, it truly is the Friendly Confines, and I think that adds to the reason why a lot of people attend the Cubs games even in our long list of losing seasons.

I think maybe fans got used to the Braves winning, so why attend?

im not saying this isnt the case... im saying it shouldnt be the case. of the cubs or red sox or yankees or cardinals made the playoffs 12 years in a row and only won one world series, they would still sell out every playoff game, because their fans are true fans and they stick with the team. atlanta doesnt have as many true fans. i drive up from alabama for about 15 games a year and all the playoff games, and its just kinda disappointing to not see the place full in the playoffs - this year was the exception. i understand what you are saying, and you are right about why we dont sell out. my point is that it shouldnt be that way and its an embarrassment considering the fans of the other teams like the royals, tigers, astros, padres, and etc., who would all relish the opportunity of a playoff berth

The findings were published on June 6 in Astronomy & Astrophysics Letters. The study addresses a broader challenge in astrophysics: understanding how extreme cosmic objects accelerate particles to very high energies and produce very high-energy (VHE) photons and neutrinos. PKS 1424+240 is located billions of light-years from Earth. It has attracted attention for years because it is both a powerful source of VHE gamma rays and the brightest known neutrino-emitting blazar in the sky, according to observations by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. It is also associated with one of the strongest peaks in IceCube's nine-year neutrino sky map A blazar is a type of active galactic nucleus powered by a supermassive black hole that pulls in surrounding matter and launches jets of plasma moving close to the speed of light. What makes blazars unique is their orientation. One of their jets points almost directly toward Earth, making them appear exceptionally bright across the electromagnetic spectrum and allowing scientists to study some of the most extreme physical processes in the Universe. The scientists exclaimed it's like the 'Eye of Sauron' in deep space. Usually, the brightest gamma-ray-emitting blazars are expected to have jets that appear to move very quickly. However, radio observations of PKS 1424+240 suggested that its jet was moving much more slowly, creating a contradiction that became part of a long-running problem known as the "Doppler factor crisis." To investigate, researchers analyzed 15 years of observations from the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), a network of 10 radio antennas spread across the continental United States, Hawaii and St. Croix. Using a technique called Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), astronomers combine signals from widely separated radio telescopes to create a virtual Earth-sized telescope capable of revealing extremely fine details. The team combined 42 polarization-sensitive radio images collected between 2009 and 2025, creating a much deeper and more detailed view of the jet than had previously been possible. The observations were carried out as part of MOJAVE (Monitoring Of Jets in Active galactic nuclei with VLBA Experiments), a long-running program that studies the brightness, polarization and magnetic field structures of jets produced by active galaxies. The project aims to better understand how activity near supermassive black holes is linked to high-energy radiation and neutrino emission. “When we reconstructed the image, it looked absolutely stunning,” said Yuri Kovalev, lead author of the study and Principal Investigator of the European Research Council-funded MuSES project at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “We have never seen anything quite like it — a near-perfect toroidal magnetic field with a jet, pointing straight at us.” The image revealed an unusual geometry. The researchers found that Earth lies almost directly in line with the jet, with a viewing angle of less than 0.6 degrees. In simple terms, astronomers are looking almost straight down the jet. This turned out to be the key to the mystery. Because the jet is aimed almost directly at Earth, a relativistic effect called Doppler boosting dramatically increases its apparent brightness. The study found that this effect boosts the emission by a factor of about 30 while also making the jet appear slower than it actually is. “This alignment causes a boost in brightness by a factor of 30 or more,” said Jack Livingston, a co-author at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “At the same time, the jet appears to move slowly due to projection effects — a classic optical illusion.” The nearly head-on view also gave scientists a rare look at the jet's magnetic field. Using polarized radio signals, they detected a clear toroidal, or doughnut-shaped, magnetic field component. The observations suggest the jet carries an electric current and that its magnetic field helps launch, shape and stabilize the flow of plasma. Researchers believe this magnetic structure may also play a key role in accelerating particles to energies high enough to produce both gamma rays and neutrinos. “Solving this puzzle confirms that active galactic nuclei with supermassive black holes are not only powerful accelerators of electrons, but also of protons — the origin of the observed high-energy neutrinos,” Kovalev said. The research was conducted under the MuSES (Multi-messenger Studies of Energetic Sources) project, which investigates how active galactic nuclei accelerate particles and generate different cosmic signals, including light and neutrinos. Scientists say understanding how protons are accelerated and linked to neutrino production remains one of the major unanswered questions in astrophysics. The findings help explain why some blazars can appear to have slow jets while still producing extremely bright high-energy emissions. More broadly, the study strengthens the link between relativistic jets, magnetic fields, gamma rays and high-energy neutrinos. Researchers say the results provide new clues about how some of the Universe's most powerful natural particle accelerators work and offer important insights for multimessenger astronomy, which combines different types of cosmic signals to study extreme events in space.
