twiglet Posted October 3, 2003 Share Posted October 3, 2003 hmmm, it does seem a bit "funny". and im hoping it was a stunt of some sort. but 1 thing that may support gabes calims is that fact that he formatted to get rid of any possible infections. therefore he ended up with an unpatched version of windows + outlook. maybe if he read a few emails before/while updating, he accidentaly infected himself again via that preview vulnerability in outlook. just a thought. and it seems that the havok engine was included in the souce. i would really like to know if any of this is 100% proven. there must be some l33t c++ dudes out there that can look into it :p Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Rexy Posted October 4, 2003 Share Posted October 4, 2003 I just read the whole thread... well sure it does smell fishy and gabe's story seems very doubtful indeed... and maybe it's a publicity stunt or something... but then again the source code does include the ipion virtual physics engine source which i don't think valve can allow to leak... mostly b/c they'll get sued big time by havok... and i don't think that's what they want... What I don't understand is why even after suspecting something was up, Gabe still left the source code unprotected. Plus, any ideas that this is "fishy" in any way is just plain silly.
