I did think they want a bit over the top with those effects, but they didn't give me a headache or anything.

I initially did as well, but here is why I eventually thought how they did things was brilliant...

The disorientation effects progressively get to be less and less apparent and frequent over the course of the game because Max eventually gets "sober" (sober in quotes as he still likes him some pain killers LOL), so I think they did a damn good job with it all, as in the beginning of the game Max is completely out of his skull with the drinking and the drugs.

So I just think it was a very effective story telling mechanism.

With that said, I did state earlier I can see the effects being a whole lot more nauseating playing the game on a PC, as one is inherently closer to their monitor then someone playing on a console who generally speaking is on the couch. At least that is how it was for me. So I could see it being overwhelming at times so close to the screen.

Just completed it on the PC. Here's a few of my thoughts... (Possible Spoilers!)

It was fun to be playing Max Payne again, and thank goodness Rockstar kept the original score from the first 2 games, which for me was one of the main areas that the feature film failed at (in addition to many other areas!). Anyway, after completing the game, I was slightly disappointed by the storyline. It just kinda turned in to a killing spree for nothing in the end. The first 2 games had storylines that were about Max and issues connected directly to him. This games' storyline was just Max doing a job where everything went wrong. Even in the game, towards the end he started talking about cleaning up all the mess that wasn't even his! It would have been nice to have some cameo or a plot twist involving a character from a past game, namely Mona Sax. He made one reference to her in the game, but that was it really. Dunno if there will be a Max Payne 4, or where they can take the story from here, but a enjoyable it is playing the game (mainly the enjoyment comes from sentimental value really...) I sure hope they create a more immersive story in the next one.

Oh and I almost forgot, I was so glad there wasn't no stupid dream scene in this game where he walks around in some weird fantasy world!

does anyone know how to run this game in windows 8 release preview? I try setting the .exe file as win7 comparability and the game still crashes when i click on the launcher

Following these instructions should allow you to launch the game. I'm surprised, this issue was supposedly corrected in the latest patch.

Here's the part you need to worry about:

Then i created this missing file in my Max Payne 3 folder:

If the picture above isn't working for whatever reason, all you need to do is create a new .TXT file in the same folder where your MayPayne3.exe is located. Name the .txt file steam_appid.txt (If you don't have file extensions enabled in Windows do not type .txt at the end). Now open up the .txt file and type 204100 then save & close the file.

Now try launching the game! You have to run the game from the .exe directly, can't launch via Steam or you'll get an unavailable message. Steam still needs to be running first before you run the game.

Not enjoying it so far, the 'glitches' really put me off during cutscenes and there seems to be a LOT of them, 15 minutes just to get into the game then 5 minutes of shooting and back into another long unskippable cutscene. I don't care about Max and these characters, don't force me to watch a story I don't yet give a crap about.

Maybe/hopefully it will pick up soon. :(

It does get a bit tedious - I thought of giving up on playing the game tonight while at the New York flashback bit - but it's awesome right afterwards at the boat chase chapter. The chapter (intro to Part 2) immediately after that... damn.

Simply loved how that came straight out of Max Payne 2, the one where Mona is running through the burning funhouse to rescue Max. Great homage bit there.

Playing this game more... I'm sensing this is classic Max Payne, GTA, and Uncharted mashed together. Control scheme came out of GTA (bloody hate it to be honest), Bullet Time, shoot dodging, and endless enemies out of classic Max Payne, and I guess the atmosphere, seamless cinematic scenes, and things like the boat chase from Uncharted?

Besides the cut scene, I hate how they're unskippable but I suppose they're necessary to keep the game seamless without load screens. Also, they could time the checkpoints better.

I'm more nauseated by the aiming system than the flickering effects. :s

<rant>Ughhhhh. ****ing Rockstar. The chapters in Part 3 are ridiculous even on easy! Couple the armoured mini-bosses and highly conservative save points - rage rage rage. </rant>

This is harder than Dead on Arrival in Max Payne 2... which probably goes to show the difficulty ramp to justify the amount of gameplay time.

Well, the ending could've been better. Still think they jumped the difficulty way too much at the end.

I still think Part 2 was the best overall. The amount of dying in Part 3 killed the ramp up to the final cutscene.

Amatuer......

Yeah, whatever. I admit I don't play enough of single player shooters these days. Console shooters on easy are brutal enough.

Man pretty much the whole game was easy until the airport so I hear ya, but....heh. It still wasn't that hard. Least on PC. Shoot from cover instead of leaning out of cover, blow up vehicles with people in/near em, you're good.

Just finished the game yesterday. Awesome. I respect the quality in Rockstar releases but their other games/series are just meh for me...so I wasn't really sure what to think until I started playing.

Right on. I'd definately give it a 10. Probably not GOTY for me with Most Wanted coming though.

I was hesitant to pick it up but OMG.. this game is so great.. Love the story, love the gunplay, love pretty much every aspect of it. I love the cinematic feel and even though it does have a lot of cut scenes they really immerse you into the experience. There were moments in the game where I didn't even notice transition between cut scene and play.

My only gripe is the light/colors effect that can get really annoying at times. I get what they were going for and I think it definitely adds to the experience but they overdid it.

I'm on chapter 12 and boy I'm glad I picked up this game. I almost didn't.

The seamless transitions were great. Not so great was the inability to access in-game menus (would like to exit out of the game during a cutscene), and not being able to skip them - but I guess they disguised loading scenes as cutscenes.

Yeah, not being able to skip them sucks (I can see it being extremely annoying in second or 3rd playthrough), but I think you are right.. they are loading stuff while the cutscene is playing

WOW, what an ending.. airport was insane.

This game easily fits into my top 5 fav games, well, ever.
