Rockstar Games is nearing its latest release date for Grand Theft Auto VI, which is poised to make a record-breaking landing on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 consoles later this year. However, one platform that's still missing from the studio's announcements has been PC. Now, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has given an update on what's going on behind the scenes.
In a new interview with Bloomberg, Zelnick says that a game published by Take-Two would only move about 5% of total sales on PC back in 2007, when he first started at the company. But now, he says major releases see the PC versions taking up "45, 50% of the sales." This makes Grand Theft Auto VI not being announced for the platform even more bizarre.
When asked about this lack of a PC port, Zelnick says that consoles are the company's focus as a core customer, while hinting that its "other consumers" may be served later.
"Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you're judged by serving the core," explained Zelnick. "Like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn't there, if they're not served first and best, you kind of don't hit your other consumers."
He also denied that the Grand Theft Auto VI marketing deal Take-Two has with PlayStation maker Sony has anything to do with this console-only release. "I mean, historically Rockstar's gone to console first," he adds.
Despite these comments, Zelnick never goes on to explicitly confirm that a PC version is in development. When mentioning that a delayed launch on PC could serve as a double-dipping scenario for Grand Theft Auto VI fans, increasing sales for the company, the CEO only said that "We'll see how it works out."
If the latest release date holds firm, Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on November 19, 2026 across Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
