Interesting, how do you interface with the openreach modem?

Mines not the HG612 though, I have the V2 I think but would be cool if I could get a faster sync

EDIT - I lied, it is a HG612, Rev.B - just found the guide :D

Just incase, everything you need should be here: http://huaweihg612hacking.wordpress.com/

Cheers, I unlocked it, I have UI access now, Line stats say (79999 / 20000 ) but I'm still getting 75/16

Need to find where it explains how to get a faster sync :)

telnet shows

Max: Upstream rate = 31364 Kbps, Downstream rate = 84876 Kbps

Path: 0, Upstream rate = 20000 Kbps, Downstream rate = 79999 Kbps

Capped at openreach modem ?

OK so I turned off QoS at the Openreach modem and things are improving

Do you happen to know what your IP profile is set at?

whats the point of QOS on a modem? it should be on a layer 3 switch... anyway I will take a look at this later on this week.

Which guide did you follow?

Followed this guide

https://huaweihg612h...ctions_v1-3.pdf

Used the firmware from here (Mine was SP10, check the back of the modem for the correct version) - The download 404s but gives a menu toolbar, use FILE > Download

https://docs.google....DNhYTNjOGJlZTBj

Apparently the firmware is stock with the exception of the firewall being lowered from BT to Standard to allow LAN2 access

Its weird, I get that speed with Chrome, but all other browsers give me 75/16

By IP profile I mean the max speed your line is capped at. You can find that out here under the results section: http://www.speedtester.bt.com/

Although I just tried to run it and there was an error so it may not be working at the moment.

Yea its been broken for ages, even BT advise not to use it, I am on the 80/20 connection though

EDIT - Works with IE9 but slow

IP Profile for your line is - 77.43 Mbps

Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps

Just worked on my third try. My downstream IP profile is stuck at 55mbps! Rubbish!

I wouldn't trust the BT speedtest site anyway, while I was on the BT forums waiting for my upgrade there were loads of complaints about it and the mods advised to use the Lite version linked to from the main test page once you tick the accept button, but even that is broken, giving me 11meg down lol

Speed does seem to be improving though, with FF I could never get over 74999 down, but its hitting 76xxx ish now and turning off QoS has given me an extra 1meg up at least too

It gave me something like 40mbit down but the max ip profile is set at 55... that's lower than when I initially upgraded. I imagine it's something to do with dynamic line management and the fact my line is most likely made of aluminium - the max achievable speed that they've "determined" for my line is 55mbit.

Just checked again - ignore the download speed that's a load of rubbish. But you'll notice the line is capped off at 55:

Might call BT and query it... not sure if it'll do any good though.

What attenuation did you guys have on ADSL2?

Can't remember exactly but I had endless problems with the line dropping to Interleaved EC, the router would sync at 8000kbps and I'd get 300KB/s max - I spent more time trying to get the line stable than I did using the net, 2 different ISPs both incompetent and clueless to what I was telling them.

Got my upgrade done over night. Re-synced at 76MB down and 16mb up (wondering why its no at full 20mb up).

BT is 76mb down 18mb up. So 16mb isn't that far off it. companies were advertising as 80/20 but Ofcom forced them to advertise with their real speeds.

This is true, I forgot about that, just goes to show that Chrome speedtest results are false then considering all other browsers hit the line cap more or less and chrome shows 80meg

Same... the absolute fastest we can get here is 22Mbps and it's like 90-120/mo I pay 55 for a 11mbps down and 1.2mbps up.

BTW any of you guys use the AMPED WIRELESS R10000G with any of the provided homehub/superhub routers???

was wondering as some people said they had issues with that and wanted to confirm this...

When I had a problem with a client leased line I spoke to a guy at BT who said not to put to much faith in speed tests, he gave me a ftp server with 10 and 100mg files and a script to run which pulls down the files and uploads them several times and reports the speed.

As it turned out I missed a setting and the speeds shown on speedtest.net were very near what I had from his test.

What are you on about? Chrome doesn't show false anything:-

B.T, have cheesed me off.

I signed up for double bubble and they said as of Tuesday 00:00 it will be activated.

Today it has not happened and B.T. now tell me I have to wait a further 10 days.

All this on the fact that infinity did not arrive in March 2011 when it did not happen but April 2012.

    • Zen Browser 1.21.4b by Razvan Serea Zen Browser is a privacy-focused, open-source web browser built on Mozilla Firefox, offering users a secure and customizable browsing experience. It emphasizes privacy by blocking trackers, ads, and ensuring your data isn't collected. With Zen Mods, users can enhance their browser experience with various customization options, including features like split views and vertical tabs. The browser is designed for efficiency, providing fast browsing speeds and a lightweight interface. Zen Browser prioritizes user control over the browsing experience, offering a minimal yet powerful alternative to traditional web browsers while keeping your online activity private. Zen Browser’s DRM limitation Zen Browser currently lacks support for DRM-protected content, meaning streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max are inaccessible. This is due to the absence of a Widevine license, which requires significant costs and is financially unfeasible for the developer. Additionally, applying for this license would require Zen to be part of a larger company, similar to Mozilla or Brave. Therefore, DRM-protected media won't be supported in Zen Browser for the foreseeable future. Zen Browser offers features that improve user experience, privacy, and customization: Privacy-Focused: Blocks trackers and minimizes data collection. Automatic Updates: Keeps the browser updated with security patches. Zen Mods: Customizable themes and layouts. Workspaces: Organize tabs into different workspaces. Compact Mode: Maximizes screen space by minimizing UI elements. Zen Glance: Quick website previews. Split Views: View multiple tabs in the same window. Sidebar: Access bookmarks and tools quickly. Vertical Tabs: Manage tabs vertically. Container Tabs: Separate browsing sessions. Fast Profile Switcher: Switch between profiles easily. Tab Folders: Organize tabs into folders. Customizable UI: Personalize browser interface. Security Features: Inherits Firefox’s robust security. Fast Performance: Lightweight and optimized for speed. Zen Mods Customization: Deep customization with mods. Quick Access: Easy access to favorite websites. Open Source: Built on Mozilla Firefox with community collaboration. Community-Driven: Active development and feedback from users. GitHub Repository: Contribute and review the source code. Zen Browser 1.21.4b changelog: New Features Updated to Firefox 152.0.2 and 152.0.3 Added 'Edit pinned tab' context menu item to manually set a pinned tab's URL Added 'Add Route for Domain' context menu item to quickly add a tab's domain to the Space Routing settings Fixes Prevent sidebar from flickering when moving a tab (#14131) Full-screening while on a glance tab will now expand the glance tab to a normal tab (#11766) Fixed space routing tabs opening in background when it should be in foreground (#14183) Other minor bug fixes and improvements. • I was using searxng for about a year , self hosted, but results were starting to timeout and eventually it became unusable so I switched to degoog. Much better for my needs, more polished and add-ons like maps and calculations etc

    • Hello, I am not as familiar with AMD CPUs as I am with Intel's, but as I understand it, that's a mid-range CPU from about three years ago.  I would think it to be fine for everyday casual-type use.  A larger SSD might be better, but with storage prices these days that's a decision that has to be carefully thought about.
