What is your opinion on Skrillex?

Recommended Posts

if you go by cricaflex's definition of a DJ there isn't a single DJ in the world that any one has heard of that exists anymore, but then i don't necessarily agree with people calling skrllex or deadmau5 or whomever (unless it's steve angello, he's a fake, and guetta) fake DJs. the game is different. The days of swapping between vinyl's and doing the fading and what not with a soundboard are done. No one does that anymore. when you say the guys computer died and he can't do a show and that makes him a fraud, that's bull ****. that's yesterday's equivalent of losing your record player and all your vinyl because essentially that's what the laptop has replaced, not all the other stuff.

look at all the **** deadmau5 is using as well as his laptop. He is still dj'ing. it's just that instead of flipping through vinyls, he clicks on his trackpad. he still does all the live mixing, the creating and effing around that dj's to with synthesizers and what not, he just doesn't flip between vinyls to do it. DJ's still exist, you go to any DJ show (i go to a lot of them) and you will see that a lot of these guys are working their asses off back there making ish happen (michael woods pours his heart into his shows, i fully recommended going to see him if you get a chance).

I like a couple of his songs, find most of the them listenable and think a few are poo but on the whole I think he's okay... looks a bit like a lesbian but looks have nothing to do with music :)

The videos of him supposidally DJ'ing live are some of the best sources of comedy on youtube. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XtNbmMt-OY)

I like some of his older stuff, his new stuff all sounds like tosh to my ears.

Somehow I like him (his personality). He seems like a kid that got heavily bullied at school.

I just cant stand his music.

I think someone mentioned (Jonathan from Korn I believe) he was treated like **** in FFTL, so yeah, I'm glad for his success, he was a kid when he joined that band and that had to be hard in and of itself.

Regarding the music, he's definitely got some talent (I even think Toshin Abasi quoted him and some other DJs as the source of inspiration in terms of how they layer and produce their tracks), but I think we're really going to see what he's got in him after the dubstep fad fades away, if he's any smart he's gonna capitalize on his current success in a way to secure a future where he can still do music with complete freedom and no financial limitations.

I'm very selective on my music. Not even my favorite group rates more than a few songs on my playlist. I think Skillrex has 3 songs currently on my playlist, which rates him decent. I like very few songs that artists do.

As for his looks, I agree. I hate the haircut.

    • I did that to a work colleague many years ago when he left it logged in. Unfortunately I was out of the office the next day, and even the IT department was stumped lol. Got a bit of a bollocking when I got back into the office, but, by god, it was worth it.
