A final good bye to Windows

Well you do have an AMD chip in there. What kind of ethernet cable do you have? That might be the problem right there.

RJ45.

Did you try to update the motherboard bios to the latest one?

M5A97 BIOS 1503

1.Improve system stability.

2.Enhance compatibility with some USB devices.

Yes. I'm running 1503

No idea. I wished I did.

I know what you're gonna say, but this isn't a Windows issue mate. If you're system is that unstable, you might wanna take a look at your hardware. There is just no reason your machine should be this messed up all the time. I've run all iterations of Windows and have never had a problem outside of XP's darker days. All I run is MSE, and have built two systems from scratch and they're still chugging.

Can you be anymore specific into the problems you're having?

I did. It cost me $980 in fried hardware.

Okay I will bite-

What makes you think Linux was the issue?

It could have happened even in Windows ... I myself had an issue that I didn't know about a few years ago under Win2k where it ran my cpu at 100% all the time and overheated it.

I have several posts about my issues. Appz break or slow down. System slows down on start/restart. Data transfers crawl along. Am always having to open cmd to use ipconfig to clear dns, release/renew. Win8 refresh has never worked for me.

Every single one of those just sounds like some bad hardware. Who built this PC?

If it's a local place that does custom built it sounds like they do a bad job on building things.

I've seen that a dozen or so times. I used to compete against some of them.

dude you must be joking right? I have Windows 7 on my gaming rig, Windows 8 on my laptop and I have absolutely zero antivirus, antispyware, none of that garbage and I have yet to see a virus - but of course, I use common sense (no porn sites, no poker/game sites, etc)

If you are running windows 8, you are running antivirus/antispyware. It's built in.

We are on cable.

No, I think he means like on a switch, router, directly connected to modem, or wifi?

On a side note: This place is awesome because you have so many people that can help you. There's always someone who will notice something that others won't and problems are solved reasonably quickly.

Well first noticed artefacts while booting / shutting down Ubuntu.

Can't really recommend it to anyone.

Other issues include lack of enabled-by-default and fully working h264/AVC GPU decoding with default player and Adobe Flash.

Disgusting.

I really don't want to stop using Win8. But for some reason, I just can't keep it stable enough to run.

Now you guys are just being mean. Take the Mac and well, use it to wipe your backsides.

What's wrong with a Mac?

I'm not ab Apple guy, but you can run Windows on there pretty easily. If you run into stability issues you'll know then that it's not the OS.

Never had those issues once I installed Proprietary Drivers.

Nvidia though can't say much about ATI/AMD

I have 8.04 as well as 11.04 installed and they run perfectly on Nvidia video card systems -

8.04 Intel PIII 900mhz 768mb memory 40gb hard drive - Nvidia Geforce 4 4000 64mb video card

and

Stock- except 4 gigs memory

http://desktops.productwiki.com/emachines-el1331g-01w/

that one runs 11.04

Dual Boot Win7

In the 15+ years I have used windows I can only ever recall getting a bad virus/malware once, and it was easily solved. When it comes to software, I rarely have any issue, and the ones I do have are generally a quickfix.

It is almost never the computer, but the user, when most issues arise.

I just always advocate people don't point the finger at what they are using when it comes to most things in computers, but themselves, cause that is generally where the issue stems from.

That said, it is your decision, and your choice, and that is okay. People can like or dislike many things for many reasons.

Good luck on whatever you decide to go with.

Get a Monster Cable brand Ethernet cable and all your problems will go away. I had the same problem with an AMD chip using standard ethernet cable. It has something to do with the positrons hitting the bus at too high a rate getting conjamburated by the AMD's processing method that concatenates the data and ends up freezing under Windows because of the things.

Or maybe I should just get a sonic screwdriver?

    • WordArt was cool. We now have color fonts as a substitute although Word only supports COLRv0 and COLRv1 (Fraud OS 11 only). The OpenType SVG color font format needs to be supported by Office. Adobe's apps support it
