Not sure if this affects us, but http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/2xrw0z/psa_download_your_minecraft_worlds_now_serious/

Edit: Not an issue for us, but may be for others who play/host other servers as well.

Did Timan ever enable shadow copies on the server? This would provide an good layer of protection if a rollback was necessary.

Can the livemap be updated/rehosted so that it is a live reflection of the current server? Or it updates periodically?

Timan would have to enable that. Someone who has access to the server could install a dynmap mod (assuming one is available that supports 1.8.3) but publishing that out to Internet can only be done by someone who has admin rights on the Windows server and Azure.

For now, the map has to be manually generated. It can be updated with just the changes, but last I heard it wasn't being hosted on the same server as the game server -- so once the web map is built it has to be transferred somewhere else.

It would be great if a dynamic map could be implemented -- if we can't get server mods for block logging it would at least make griefing easier to spot.

We could continue to generate the overviewer map, and I'm happy to continue helping with that and hosting it, but it's very time consuming and not really an ideal situation.

But perhaps we can try use the latest Spigot build and install dynmap for that. I did look into it before and I don't believe there are any other working dynamic mapping tools.

An automated system would be useful but its a shame Overviewer is a high impact renderer and would slow the server while running :(

If you synced the game data directory with Onedrive and set up a read-only share, could you render on another server?

-Forjo

There is no other server, I don't mind doing another render it only takes ~10min, it just takes forever for me to upload to Google Drive.

That's just it -- you're uploading it to Google Drive, which is another server. :)

Does Google Drive have a program that could be installed on the Neowin server which would allow you to configure a background sync so that the data that results from the render is automatically sync'd?  I know Onedrive will do this by only uploading the changes. I can't imagine Google Drive wouldn't have similar functionality.

If that could be done, you could set up a scheduled task to do the render for you...

Ok, I tried rendering the map but when it hit 8GB in size I thought  f-it and did something that required less effort.

Depends if you guys want to make the switch back to bukkit, I'm currently playing with it on my pc and transferring our old settings over to the updated configs, everything seems to be working okay apart from Essentials (warps/home/etc) I'm hopping that's just a config issue though. :)

Neocraftia is back to running Bukkit 1.8.x and Dynmap is in the process of creating the map. http://mc.neowin.net:8123/

I offered to do this on my host but no one ever got back to me

I think Steve beat you to the offer, sorry :p

You're welcome, I just hope I don't have to start from scratch every time. D:

I disabled Creeper/Endermen block damage in Bukkit and enabled mob greifing on the server so Farmer Villagers now replant crops! :D

    • Along with that and very unfortunate for Linux, the AI boom/tariffs/global supply chain instability really destroyed any chances of it getting a decent chunk of market share. By all accounts, if a Steam Deck was still available for $399 (with tons of alternatives releasing at $500-$800 - instead of $1500+ now) and the Steam Machine was out there for $499, I think a lot of people WOULD have been willing to try SteamOS and switch away from Windows. But yeah, with the crazy jacked up prices now, people have to make safe bets with their money.
    • Neowin hasn't been covering the Ladybird browser but it has been posted about on a lot of tech and Linux/open source sites. I have been following the effort myself for almost a year now. Cloudflare and Proton are among their sponsors. You can read the why here--> https://ladybird.org/#about
    • That's really the user's problem, not the developers. It's not like the Windows 10 EOL was a surprise. Once a product goes out of support, you have to understand YOU are owning the risk of running it - the rest of the world will move on, maybe you'll be OK, maybe you'll be OK for a while, maybe you'll have an issue.... But you can't expect devs to write or certify software for dead operating systems.
    • Not mentioned in this blog post is that Linux has now dropped for 2 months in a row. At a hight of 5.33% in March, then 4.52% in April and now 3.99% in May. I suspect the end of Windows 10 got a bunch of people to try Linux, fueled by all the Microsoft hate, and rabid social media push of that....and now they are going back to Windows 11 because of the normal Linux issues. The vast majority of PC gamers want to use their computers to game and not trouble shoot why a game wont work, or half work.
