Man of Steel sequel to feature Batman (and others) (2016)

Recommended Posts

You know, it is a superman sequel so I agree that batmans role in it will be the backup so the character will get less time overall.  So saying it doesn't have to be a great batman performance from Ben does hold some weight to it.

before I went to bed last night, my wife mentioned in the news some 20,000 had already signed a petition against Affleck being the batman.

The petition really shows the bad side of comic-book fans if you ask me. Don't think that the petition is going to have any effect though. I'm not 100% positive about the casting either as a fan, but making it illegal for someone to play a role is taking it too far :/

As has been noted, the same thing happened with other actors & characters that went very well.

Ben Affleck As Batman: Joss Whedon Says Actor Will 'Crush It'

Joss Whedon may be operating in a rival super hero-verse, but the Avengers helmer had nothing but kind words for newly-named Batman, Ben Affleck.

"Affleck'll crush it," Whedon tweeted on Friday evening, just over 24 hours after news broke that the Oscar-winner would be joining Henry Cavill in Warner Bros.' Man of Steel sequel. "He's got the chin -- just needs the material. Affleck & Cavill toe to toe -- I'm in."

Well, I'm not so happy about this line: "Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character". This kinda has me worried to be honest. Before you know it, these characters really are just names and masks/cowls on the big screen without taking the legacy that's been build up in the comic books. I mean, of course they don't have to follow the comic books, but at least keep the legacy part of it. How and why a superhero became who he/she is and whatnot. Maybe they're not going to change the character like that at all, but it does have me worried.

That suit looks awesome to be honest. I hope that his cowl is going to be more like the comic-book version. Bale's cowl looked a bit weird compared to the original.

Umm I might be wrong but isn't that just a photoshop? There's no way they would be releasing any kind of publicity for the film when he's only just been announced in the role.

I'm still hoping for the best. If it all turns out great than the people of the petition will look like even bigger fools, haha.

The fact he has signed up for multiple films means the petition means nothing but it's a bit of fun I suppose :/

Also apparently Affleck has received Death Threats  :|

Now that's just silly, fans need to calm down and back away from these types of extremes.   I don't know if he'll do fine, I honestly think he can pull off the playboy rich Bruce Wayne side of it.  Going to have to wait and see how he is as Batman though but I'm not a scriptwriter or a director so I just don't see what they see.   It's like Ledger and Joker all over though, best to wait and then we'll know.

On the bright side, a multi-movie deal is interesting, I could see them using Batman to help boost others as well, it's clear the next MoS movie is going to get a boost from having Batman in it from the start.   Wonder if they plan to do the same with some other JL characters?

Was thinking an hour ago that that would happen. I'm actually feeling sorry for him that the internet is exploding on him like that. And yeah, the petition is kinda funny :p Though tall of these things are showing the bad side of comic-book fans just like when they announced Heath Ledger to be the Joker.

They even quoted something like that in that post: "to make a threat of violence against any person is completely unacceptable and it diminishes the credibility of ALL superhero genre fans and dismisses you all into a non-relevant ?lunatic? category."

Of course it's a Photoshop and not from the actual production :p I was only saying that that suit looks pretty cool :)

After ARCO I would of thought Affleck would go in a different direction. Not sure playing Batman is a good move. Christian Bale has been the best Batman and if he's done playing the role they need to let this superhero take a permanent vacation.

I can assure you that Hollywood will never agree to that. Batman is too popular a character to let it die.

I was thinking about this over the weekend. Still not all for Affleck, but completely understand Bale not taking the part. Christopher Nolan portrayed Batman in his own way and Gotham in his own way. The Batman in Man of Steel is probably going to be different than Nolans version, thus it wouldn't make sense for Bale to reprise the role in a different manner or even suit. It would be awesome if Nolan and Bale had signed on to this, but with out both its no point.

I like how people just forget Nolan's involvement with this project, even with casting Affleck for the role. Now that the dust has settled a little bit, I'm actually looking forward to see what is gonna happen. In a few years, probably the same thing will happen to RDJ if he can continue to be Iron Man/Tony Stark.

This article sheds some light on Nolan's departure and why Affleck was chosen over other possible actors. In a way it makes a lot of sense, though personally I would have liked a different actor with a similar relationship with WB.

    • WTF? I am not taking a video of myself to access a site or to create an account. What are they thinking? I don’t even have a webcam on my main desktop PC. The powers to be are really looking to normalize the taking of pics or submitting ID for everything. I afraid most people will end up just going along with it.
