[general] AutoPatcher XP for other languages

Recommended Posts

Just to get things straight, because I'm a bit confused........

Is the December update going to have the Dutch update files, or just some Dutch texts in it???????

The December Update will be 100% English. BUT - I will be releasing custom language packs that will upgrade your install to the language of your choice (the documentation and the updates).

O.k......to get it straight: This December release will be all English, but future updates wil have (for example) Dutch update files (so you can use Autopatcher with a Dutch version of XP) and Dutch texts?

Um... not exactly... let me explain it a little better.

You want a Dutch version of AutoPatcher XP, let's say. This is what you would do:

1. Download AutoPatcher XP Dec Update

2. Download AutoPatcher XP Dutch Language Pack

3. Run Updater in Dutch Language Pack, will convert the files and documentation in the December Update to their Dutch versions.

:)

but jason, wouldnt it be better to just make a dutch version of the December release instead of making a special pack... i mean it would save a lot of MBs... they would download 180MB + 100MB = 280MB for the dutch pack... they would only have to download 180MB...

Just a thought...

I guess that's true, but I was looking at the space point of view... if I did that for Dutch, I'd have to do it for all of them. I just thought Lang Packs would be the way to go... hmmm... I'll figure somethin' out. :)

Cool... and while you are at it... don't forget the Belgian language pack :D.

I am kidding Flish, there is no such language as Belgian .

We are 3-lingual by defaul and Dutch is one of them ;).

Actually I knew that! :D I lived close to Belgium for about 5 years, and visited a few times (I even have an old scar from a Belgium Amusement Park). :)

Hi All,

New member here (but no noob on PCs). I'd like to thank FlishFun and Raptor for their work, great idea, even better job.

After finding my way down here I discovered that I was not the only one with my wish. Got a couple of questions though. First of all, let me begin to say I am in desparate need for a Dutch version, as a sysadmin for a social department, providing jobs for less able folks, I am 'blessed' with a batch of probably the most illiterate pc-users you've ever seen. Strike that, I don't think you can begin to imagine...they're the kind that has even trouble reading/understanding anything put before them in their own language, let alone English. (for those understanding Dutch, the expression 'sociale werkplaats' says enough I trust)

 To top it all, since they're almost all too ignorant to do this themselves, my boss decided, somewhere before my time, that if employees have problems with home machines, they can bring these in the IT dep. and we'll put it back in a running condition, cleaned of garbage and updated and all (thank you boss! :pinch: ).

So you can appreciate my need for something that is as idiot proof as possible, as such I am very motivated to get a totally Dutch version working.

Now, what I like to know is,

what is the current status of any translations being done ?

need any help ? (if I can help speed things up, do not hesitate to ask, got oodles of time)

Also, I read somewhere in this thread something about the patcher becoming slow if I were to do a resource translation of the main program? In relation to this and the fact I need to download both a full English autopatcher and all the corresponding Dutch updates, suppose we (Dutch volunteers) can find a place to host a full Dutch version, would it be possible to reach some kind of agreement where these same volunteers would gain permission to keep it in sync with the English version on their own, releaving FlishFun and Raptor of the need to maintain language dependant installs?

Regards

welcome to neowin :p it's a gr8 place...

let me get things straight...you want to have a full dutch version of autopatcher so that your end-users can update their pc by themselves?

cuz if you want to do that you will have to download ALL the DUTCH updates yourself and rename them to the english filenames of the original AP update-files :p

i dunno if flish is solving that in the upcoming update but this is the way it should work..i guess....

but if you want that those ppl @ your social workshop:P to do it themselves....i dunno...don;t u think it's better to do it yourself?...AP is really easy but for total computer n00bs who only speak "marokkaans of turks" :p i think u should just do it yourself :p to prevent them cumming back :p

Thnx for the welcome :D ,

To get things straight, it is not because these folks speak 'Turks' or 'Marokaans' (I would not dare begin to include these languages too since I don't speak them) but simply because most lack the mental capabilities to understand what they're doing. They're the kind that is just capable enough to do MSN or hotmail, but are lost finding their way to the start menu.

Basically what I want to do is for those folks to create a special version (only for personal use) that runs completely unattended, that leaves me with only the initial dialog(s) to translate I guess. OTOH, once you're going to do some translating, it would be a little thing to go all the way and do a full translation for those who are more comfortable with doing an interactive update but still can't read English.

Regards

PS. And I realize they'll be in anyways, but it is no use going into discussion with them about this since they will do it anyways, no matter what you say)

It's december......haven't had anything to translate yet....very curious on how things are going......Allready designed a nice cover, guys????? ;o)

haha Well, yes it officially is December, but you still have a little while to wait. :)

I'm still working on everything (got no work done this last 4 day weekend because of family things I had to take care of all of my 4-day weekend... let's just say my brother needs to get a serious beating)... and it should all be done on time, hopefully. lol I'm shootin' for Dec 15th... but if it gets done sooner, it'll be out sooner (it won't be out any later than Dec 26th though [at 7:00 PM on Dec 26th I will be limited to 8 min a day on the PC until Jan 4th], so don't worry).

I promise to send you the documentation to translate when I finish. Don't worry, I didn't forget. :D Yes, we have a nice cover so far, but it's also still being worked on.

Hi guys,

I'll be more than happy to do the Hebrew version. I'll get those updates tonight.

:-)

-E-

    • Microsoft Weekly: Surface Laptop Ultra, Windows 11 context menus, Build 2026 recap, and more by Taras Buria This week's news recap is here, with Microsoft announcing the new Surface Laptop Ultra, fresh chips from NVIDIA for Windows on ARM, a no-build week, fixes for Windows 11's context menus, gaming news, reviews, and more. Quick links: Windows 10 and 11 Windows Insider Program Updates are available Reviews are in Gaming news Great deals to check Windows 11 and Windows 10 Here, we talk about everything happening around Microsoft's latest operating system in the Stable channel and preview builds: new features, removed features, controversies, bugs, interesting findings, and more. And, of course, you may find a word or two about older versions. At Computex 2026, together with NVIDIA, Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, its most powerful laptop to date, powered by NVIDIA's RTX Spark processor. Details about this computer are currently scarce, as Microsoft has only revealed certain parts of its specs. So far, we know that the computer has a 15-inch mini-LED display, a rich set of ports, a powerful processor, and all-day battery life. It also comes with a new wallpaper, which you can already download here in full resolution. The Surface Laptop Studio is not the only NVIDIA-powered Surface, which Microsoft unveiled this week. At Build 2026, the company also debuted the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, an odd-shaped desktop with a 20-core NVIDIA Grace CPU and an NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPU with 6,144 CUDA cores and fifth-generation Tensor Cores with FP4 precision, connected via the NVIDIA NVLink-C2C chip-to-chip interconnect for high performance. According to Microsoft, it can run models with up to 120 billion parameters locally without relying on cloud GPU infrastructure. These two new Surface devices are likely to cost quite a lot, and for those who need a more affordable device, Microsoft is preparing the next-gen Qualcomm-powered Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. This week, details about these two devices leaked in plenty of detail. Other announcements at Build 2026 include the following: Microsoft unveils new security tools for IT admins and developers building AI products Microsoft announces Scout, an OpenClaw-powered personal agent for enterprise customers Microsoft unveils MAI-Thinking-1 reasoning and MAI-Code-1 coding models Microsoft announced a new Windows 11 native command-line utility Microsoft unveils Majorana 2 quantum chip, accelerating commercial timeline to 2029 Microsoft believes that AI agents will eventually replace apps through Project Solara Microsoft introduces Web IQ, a Bing-powered search system built for AI agents Last week, Microsoft released a new Experimental build, which introduced a major Start menu upgrade. It now lets you toggle off specific parts of the menu without affecting other features, resize the menu, and hide additional UI elements. We published a closer look here, so if you want to know what Microsoft is cooking without enrolling in the Insider program and installing unstable builds, check it out. Speaking of new features, many users are very annoyed about the way Microsoft delivers them. Recently, a frustrated user shared their experience with gradual rollouts, and even Microsoft engineers admitted there is a flaw in the system that prevents new features from applying properly. One of those new features includes the ability to uninstall AI models in Windows 11 with a single click. Windows 11 is finally getting fixes for its slow context menus. Marcus Ash from Microsoft confirmed that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are going to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." According to Marcus, Microsoft will share more details soon. Windows Insider Program Windows 11 preview builds, released last week, are now available for download as standalone ISO files. These days, Microsoft regularly pushes new images, allowing users to clean-install its recent Windows 11 preview builds faster and easier. If you want to try the latest Windows 11 features without jumping through the Windows Update hoops, get those new images here. Sadly, Microsoft did not release new Windows 11 preview builds this week. Come back next time. Microsoft is preparing new features for Teams. Later this month, the messenger will receive a new download manager with auto-dismissing notifications, reducing clutter and making the overall experience less annoying when dealing with downloads. GEEKOM Air12 2026 Edition is a low-power, affordable computer with an Intel Tiger Lake Pentium Gold processor, up to 16GB of memory, and 512GB of storage, costing just $349. It is light, quiet, energy efficient, and has modern ports on the front. However, the front-facing USB Type-C is data-only, and there are some quirks with the computer's memory, so check out the full review. The AMD RX 9070 GRE has been released worldwide, and we published a benchmark review comparing this powerful graphics card to the RX 9070 XT, 7800 XT, the NVIDIA RTX 5070, and RTX 4070. It has solid, balanced performance, plenty of RAM, and low temperatures, but watch out for mediocre ray tracing performance and not the best efficiency. Also, we reviewed the Cuktech 10 Ultra, a compact, high-power charger with four ports and a big display full of various stats. This tiny charger can pull nearly 120W and spread that power according to each connected device's needs. It also comes with a high-quality 240W cable, three power modes, and retractable prongs. The best part? It is quite affordable, just make sure you have an outlet placed in the right spot to benefit from the built-in display. • Let's goooooooo! I've been loving the entries so far! I still have to finish Rebirth (things have been busy!)! Excited for this next installment.
    • "Revelation?" I was hoping for this episode to be called "Reunion". Oh, well... In a related note, the Final Fantasy VII compilation has received an EC entry, short for Ever Crisis. For those who don't know, it already had AC, BC, CC, and DC entries, short for Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus. I hope it doesn't get an FC entry becaude that would be a freakin' crisis.
